change of internet benefit for diamond and diamond plus

Recommended Posts

Look at it this way....

Don’t you think there is a lot of Diamonds paying for the package and complaining to Royal they were not getting their free days? Those Diamonds are likely to be staying in more expensive cabins as well and spending money in Speciality Restaurants, Drink Packages, Excursions, Casino....

Just a fact jack.

If you booked the internet package onboard the benefit was used as a coupon for $ off the package.

The internet is so bad I don’t want to buy a package. The 2 free days is enough aggravation for me. I’m currently getting dressed for dinner on Adventure and there is a commercial on the tv talking about how great Voom is. The cruise director from Anthem says it’s faster than what he has at home. He must have dial up

This is where you are wrong. We cruise about 10 times a year - we stay in regular balconies. Rarely, if ever, do excursions, never do specialty dining, don't do the casino except for $20 each, don't buy pictures. The only thing we do is buy the beverage package as it is worth it for us. I would rather cruise a ton of time a year rather than spend money on an expensive suite or specialty dining and such.

I agree.

We could sail in Suites twice a year but instead sail in balcony cabins twice a year and have 3 foreign 5star hotel holidays instead.

EXACTLY!!!! And when we complain that they lied after it goes into effect, they will just claim that at the time they answered our questions it had not yet been implemented!

You know this all seems to have started when they removed the free pen from our cabins a few years ago. Chip, chip, chip. Spend, spend spend if you want the free amenity.

Can anyone say airline frequent flyer programs? This really all started with Bob Crandall and AA when they started a frequent flyer program. Consider how those have changed over the years. And we also know what airlines have done over the last x number of years with fees.

What I'm getting at is that RCL is taking a page from the airline playbook. You can raise fares and RCL will certainly do that when they can but you can also make a ton of money with fees. People tend to buy fares. The fees come later. Keep your fares somewhat in line with the competitors to maintain market share.

None of this really surprises me. Heck, I used to get S&H green stamps when I bought gas....and someone else pumped the gas, checked the oil and washed the windows!

I have never accused anyone of being a “Freeloader”, your word not mine.

I sure wouldn’t let lack of internet or a “perk” get in the way of my cruise. If it’s a perk I had and lost, and it’s something that I enjoyed, I would find another way to obtain even if that means a monetary investment or another cruise line or another form of vacation.

I board a ship next week that I spent a few grand to go on; seems my options to get what I was anticipating to receive is I have to spend more money to get it now.

When Royal changes amenities it should be on new bookings made after an announcement; not an announcement that changes those already locked in with payments. I know you'll bleat the T&C's...in fact why aren't you over the moon with the reduction in benefits? It's what you have been asking for all along

The thing that I find most frustrating is the standard response that Royal is giving out.

"Your benefits haven't changed. If changes are made, you'll be notified directly and as soon as possible."

I expect that my "notification" will be when I get on a ship and see the new benefits listed on a piece of paper in by cabin.

Has anyone here ever been notified directly about any change or reduction in benefits?

Fantastic response he is the only one who seems happy at the loss of perks and benefits for D and D+.

Correct... directly and as soon as possible after you enter your cabin.

What about that is a "fact"? Since Royal keeps telling us nothing has changed, I can expect my 2 free days and I'll buy more days a la carte if I want; no NEED for a package. If Royal waits to tell me until I am onboard and my only option is to buy a package I lose the ability to pre-purchase at a discount.

I'd like the free day per member I've been getting. Paying more to get it as a discount isn't an enhancement for me; it forces me to spend more money or do without; it creates an either or situation.

You got what you wanted; for members to lose benefits. I can't believe someone that got into this off their GF's ex-husbands money is so blind as to wish for this to happen. You wouldn't set foot on a ship without her money and have the crassness to brag about the suite life.

Going on the Anthem 8/23/19. Diamond + and had planned to use my phone while at the US ports, and use our 2/24 hr internet to cover most of the time while on the ship. Guess we won't get that. I certainly will not spend more money to purchase an internet package that I used to get for "FREE".

Also have Explorer booked 2/15/19 for 14 nights in Australia. Hopefully, if this change is true, we can all bombard RC with our unhappiness about this change, and they will re-instate our benefits we have had in the past.

As others have said, with RC taking away all our perks for being "loyal" we will have to re-think what our "loyal" cruise line may be.

Definitely not happy about this change.:(

I couldn't agree more.

Good question, I hope someone will ask her. On another RC blog that I follow, a number of people have called C&A and they have not heard about any internet changes. Also, the top moderator of that site says it's not correct.

I believe it's possible that someone has been miss informed.

Sorry, it looks like I was the one that was misinformed:o:o --- I see new info. is coming to light now and it's being reported from two different ships.

I had internet last spring break on Anthem and I wasn’t that impressed. It might on been because there were a lot of kids onboard, but for a cruise line that caters to families they should be able to provide what is advertised.

I asked the Diamond consierge on Vision in February 2017 out of Dubai and he checked us in for our Emirates flight back to the UK.

I alway have the concierge check us in and print my boarding passes.
