Sorry for this question if it been answered I missed it. Has the ***** been expanded to more of the Regal or is it still just the original area?

I have to figure if it was going to work it should be expanding by now. My2cents.

Only just - it was reported by someone boarding this week that they were told it has been rolled out to 160 cabins - that's 50 more than on the original pilot.

So in over 5 months they’ve gone from 3% of the 1,780 cabins to 9%.

Yikes! when you put it in that perspective...progress doesn’t seem to be so good.

Being a new system just like when Princess@Sea was created some delays are not surprising to me on the first ship with *****.

What I don’t understand is how that surprised CCL/PCL management by overhyping a new unproven system.

The Royal Princess was promoted as having ***** in January yet we received notification that it will not be on our Spring 2019 cruises & they hope it’ll be available in the future.

Marketing was obviously given marching orders to be sure pax wanted to wear

the medallions. Be a real bummer if we all thought "Big Brother!" and left them

in our staterooms.

Wow, that’s surprising that they already know it won’t be ready on the Royal in a year. I just can’t believe how much they overhyped this medallion system when it’s clearly so not ready.

Same here. We are on the Royal in April 2019 and thought even with these hiccups on the Regal, they would have it all resolved by our April 2019 cruise. We got the same email in December 2017 telling us no ***** for April 2019. I was looking forward to ***** but now I’m not so sure.

We’ll never know for sure who approved the overhyped marketing however I prefer a company who delivers as promised.

Even the passengers in those 160 cabins may not be using ***** for the reasons expressed on this forum.

Here’s their statement emailed in December for our May 2019 cruise on the Royal:

“The creation of Ocean Medallion Vacations is an all-encompassing project that is currently being activated onboard another Princess ship. We had hoped to have it launched in time for your cruise aboard Royal Princess. However, we have identified refinements and enhancements that require more time for us to fully realize our aspirations to elevate the guest experience by way of this new technology. We hope you’ll experience Ocean Medallion on a future cruise with Princess. We apologize for any disappointment this news may cause for you”.

Apparently this advance notification was made to not feel the need to offer any compensation like they did for some Regal passengers.

Thanks for sharing that.

I guess refinements & enhancements are now code words for “we hope to actually make it work”!!

I get such a chuckle every time I read something new about this worthless "high tech" solution to opening a cabin door and purchasing items onboard!

I was on the last "non-*****" cruise, too. I knew things had gone haywire when they replaced the TV in our cabin and it was out for the next day and a half. It's crazy to think that after so many months they still don't have this working fully.

Or like the recent use of the word encouraging for requiring an earlier final payment: encouraging guests to finalize their cruise bookings earlier”

What dictionary did they use where encouraging & requiring have the same definition.

I assume we all agree that ***** roll out has been a disaster for Princess. Our next cruise is about a year out and don't really care one way or the other. I have a question for any who have actually used the system. Are the cabins "FULLY" wired for *****. Door lock and interactive TV screen?

I had one in December. It opened our door, worked in the casino and they knew when we were in the shops or at the bar and other areas since a circle with our face & name showed up on the iPad they had.

Didn’t do anything with the TV back when I used it.

IDidn’t do anything with the TV back when I used it.

The selling point was interactive TV to show locations of everyone in your party, making reservations, room service orders and detailed folio information.

We board the Regal tomorrow in an ***** cabin. I will report back as to the usability of the ***** and what works with it and what does not.

When at the M&G in January on the Regal and asked if it would be ready by April when I too am back on it tomorrow the staff looked at each other and seemed to smile..which I would now reinterpret as suppressed laughter I seem to remember that one said parts of the system had not yet been invented the technology was so new. The salesperson must have been really great to be able to get them to go for many muti million $ system that hadn’t been invented yet. Mike

It seemed the new timetable to have it functional shipwide was during the repositioning to the European market. Let's see if that happens then or during one of the subsequent voyages after the TA. We certainly hope it is a done deal before our December voyage.

Our first experience with ***** is positive. Arrived at the port 7 minutes ago from our hotel to board for the Regal TA. Greeted by name as we walked to the line and were whisked away to another area, processed through and were sitting down in the Elite lounge 7 minutes later.

But that is shoreside without all the nasty metal bulkheads and saltwater spray. (yn)
