Ideas for Southeast Coast and Bahamas?

Recommended Posts

Looks interesting, thanks Bob!

FYI - I have some ideas mapped out, was just looking for additional ideas for places to visit or things to do in those areas, in case there are some "wow" things to do or see.

Has anyone checked out Fort Fincastle or Fort Charlotte in Nassau?

Years ago my wife and I were in Myrtle Beach for the week and drove down to Charleston for the day. What a beautiful city. We took the ferry out to Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were. We also did a horse and buggy ride through the city.

Hi ZambiniGold,

Have you checked out our Roll Call Thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2489476

I did walk to Fort Fincastle like 11 years ago. The queens staircase on the way are pretty funky - seemed like we were in a jungle all of a sudden. Looking back at my photos I recall that it had ok views and there was a nice cool breeze to reward you once you got up there.

After the fact we (my gal pal and I) were told we shouldn't have walked there alone. *shrug* it seemed okay to me. Either way make sure it's in your safe/comfort level.

Looking forward to seeing you onboard!

Judy

Totally agree on this one!! Thanks again Bob, for recommending this tour to me awhile ago. We had "Captain Ron"..who was a real hoot!

Next time we went back, we went back on our own to some of the same places and had lunch at Ms. Wallace's place. Delicious!

Taking the 9 day from Baltimore to Charleston, Orlando, Miami, Coco Cay, and Nassau. Open to ideas on what to see in Charleston, Miami, and Nassau! Orlando is slated for SeaWorld :)

Only 4 more days!

Do keep in mind that your "Orlando" port stop is not in Orlando. It is in Port Canaveral with Orlando being 45 miles away.

Word of mouth is indeed a wonderful way to advertise! :)

I still wonder if I should sign us up for the much more expensive cooking class they offer sometime. It's quite pricey..but I bet it is good.

Charleston - the best way to see it is with a native.

...........and I realize that I forget which company we used! :o

Pick one. :D

I'm doing this itinerary in January, and I'll be doing one of these:

In addition to the Nassau food tour that I have done & recommended (thanks for the shout out, Bob ;);)), I have done food tours in San Juan (repeatedly), St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. (the last two just in the last two days)

This is the Nassau walking tour we took our grand daughters on during our recent Anthem port stop there. We ended it by going to Junkanoo beach which is just west of or the other side of the British Colonial Hilton hotel from the Prince George wharf and cruise ship docks.

I'll be in Charleston on Saturday. The first time I went to Charleston, I plotted my own way around. If you're not opposed to walking, you can take in a LOT of the city just by walking. I found a place for breakfast, then found a local coffee shop, made it back down to the bay where I boarded a ferry over to Fort Sumter. That was fun.

This time around, I'm going to cross the bay and explore the Yorktown. An all day ferry pass is like 12 bucks, I think and the entry for the Yorktown exhibit is $20?. That's my plan for now.

You've already picked out Orlando. Miami, I suggest going over to South Beach, if you've never been. Also, the airboat rides in the Everglades are fun. Myself, I'm going to hop onto the free Trolley and make it over to Little Havanna and find a lunch place. I debated renting a car for myself, but a lot of Miami, parking is problematic.

Nassau, I'm looking at the Speedboat tour. Its $65.00 and within walking distance from the pier. If you haven't been, Atlantis is a good, but somewhat pricey excursion. Many people like to find all inclusive resorts to get a day pass at. I myself find that a little dull, so I won't do that. For something cheap, you can make your way to the Pirate Museum. Its within walking distance, however, its a little small. For what it is, its actually pretty good for the price you pay. In the past, I've walked over to the Fish Fry or Junkanoo Beach.

Checked out the other thread, some good ideas there and here as well, thanks. Charleston seems like a great town to walk through, and that was our plan. Orlando / Canaveral we have the excursion transport to SeaWorld. Miami we are on the 4 hour tour through Miami / South Beach. Hoping for Coco Cay beach time, and also at Nassau (I was eyeing Junkanoo Beach, so good to hear others have been there).

I'll see what the deal is on Fort Fincastle...we have 2 generations traveling together, so maybe just the beach :) - can't go wrong with that!
