Please continue with any suggestions on plays that you have seen. I am also waiting to see who is playing at 54 below and Carlyle room which are both excellent night clubs with some big name talent .

Hi, Has anyone seen Hadestown, wondering what you thought of the show?

I saw the original production in Vermont in 2006.It was excellent.

My wife and I saw theatrical productions all over the US and Canada between 1973 and 2018.

Hundreds of reviews here: https://www.show-score.com/broadway-shows/hadestown-broadway

You will get much more info from a site like that then just a few replies here.  IE:  @George C liked it.  I didn't like it.  My wife thought it was ok.  But Show Score gives you more info, like things to compare it to.  Casts change, too, so my experience may be quite different than yours.  For instance, we LOVED Hamilton almost every time we saw it.  But one time we attended, the actor playing Hamilton didn't have the same charisma, so we didn't think it was as good.

The cast does have a huge part on my thoughts on how I like it , some stars can carry a show , I doubt we would have liked Waitress as much if Sara Barillies wasn’t starring in it. Wife just booked our flights, going to New York is a little early but now we can book a possible show that night.

We have good tickets to Hamilton for Friday and most likely will go to 54 below to see Soundheim unplugged ( would highly recommend seeing a show here very talented singers and musicians in a rather small nightclub). Will try to get to a Katz to get a pastrami sometime, also pizza is a must and our favorite restaurant Becco’s .

We visited NYC in Mid April and saw:

Sweeney Todd:  very dark production, but Sutton Foster is a treasure

The Who's Tommy: I didn't like some of the song choices, but it's very high energy

Merrily We Roll Along:  Great cast, the story isn't as strong

Hamilton:  Got $99 Obstructed View seats in the 5th row waaaaay over on the side 2 days earlier at the box office.  They very carefully tell you about the obstruction and stamp it on the tix.  Our seats were 25% the cost of the folks 4 seats to our left.  We heard EVERYthing, but could see 80-85% of the staging.  We've seen it before so we were more than fine with these $99 seats

The best thing we saw was an Off Broadway show called Dead Outlaw, but it has closed.  By the folks who did The Band's Visit.  Incredible show, based on a true story.  Dark but so well done

Where did you buy your tickets? I was going to book Sutton Foster who played at Club Carlyle last year but waited too long and it was sold out. Thanks for information.

I have also bought 95 percent of the shows in last 30 years from tkts , my only problem is some of the tkts I have bought didn’t have enough legroom so I stood in back or left some shows .

We always buy one show we REALLY want to see in advance, and then TKTS for the rest.  And I mispoke before, as mentioned the cheap Hamilton tix were from the Box Office.  Obstructed view seats are a great way to see the show up close (or most of it, at least) at a really good price
