Just back from the 4/22 Escape to Bermuda

We have traveled on the Breakaway 4 times and I was so excited to try another ship! I actually thought I was still on the Breakaway a few times. There are a few differences, but not that many. I am not complaining because it was nice knowing where everything was, but I really had hoped to feel like I was on a different ship.

The best difference is the District Brew House. We loved it there. They have comfortable chairs, great bartenders and the best entertainment on any ship I have ever been on. Beau Tahana is a very funny and talented singer. His imitations of other singers are spot on. He gets everyone involved and you just cannot help but smile.

Second best difference is the Meet and Greet is held at the District Brew House and they bring out different beers for everyone to taste. I do not even like beer, but I tried a few and they were not bad for beer. The officers on the ship come around and talk to everyone not just stand in the front like the Breakaway, so go to your Meet and Greet!

We had a balcony room and every thing is the same except they put USB chargers in the lights by the bed. Great idea. We did not even need our power strip to charge anything. I felt the room was not as quiet as the Breakaway. I could hear the people talking in the room next to us. I was very sad to see no lights on the balcony.

The atrium on the Escape is better. On the Breakaway they had high back chairs that blocked the view from anyone in the back. On the Escape those chairs are gone! It made the area seems bigger. Also the internet café is moved to the other side of the ship, so we were able to get seats every time we went tp the atrium.

If you are an early riser like I am then you can go to H2O at 8AM and have a hot tub all to yourself. I love starting off my morning looking at the ocean in a hot tub.

We did rent a Twizy in Bermuda and I do recommend it. It was nice to go beaches and be all by ourselves. I did a Twizy review in the Bermuda boards.

Overall it was a great cruise. I felt that the crew for the most part was extremely friendly. The bartenders were awesome. We did hit up all the bars and never had to wait long for a drink. I just wish the ship had felt a little more different than the Breakaway, so I did not forget that I was on a different ship.

Glad to hear about the Atrium...could never get a seat on either the Breakaway or the Gem. We could only listen to what was going on if we happened to be in O'Sheanan's eating at the time that something was going on below. Almost saw a few fights breakout over some passengers hanging onto seats when others could not even find standing room to view what was going on!:(

Was the free ferry to St. George working?

Thanks for your review! Disappointed to hear the Escape is like the Breakaway, its our least favorite ship. I am looking forward to The District though...sounds just for us.

We're looking forward to our cruise next month and hope to make the best of it.

Thanks for the review! Can you tell us what the weather and degrees it was most of the time and how rough the cruising was. I haven't been to Bermuda yet and was under the assumption it was still relatively cool there in April .......

It was in the low 70's while we were there. The water was warm enough that I could swim, but I am from upstate NY so I am used to cold water.

The ocean was smooth the first day almost like glass. I could not believe the ocean would not have waves and white caps. The second day we were going pretty fast because of a medical emergency, but the waves still were not that bad.

Like Glass is exactly how we described it as well. I personally thought this was the smoothest cruise I’ve ever been on.

how much longer was it?..is it about 1 hour?

As I said on the Bermuda board, any additional travel time was probably due to a substitute ferry being used. Last year the travel time of the NCL ferry was about the same as the public ferry.

Couple questions if you don't mind?

-How was the food in the MDR's?

-How was the casino?

-How is the waterfront decks' bar scene?

Thanks!

Sorry we only ate at the specialty restaurants so I cannot comment on the MDR. We are not big gamblers, but we did a few slots and the best ones were in the smoking section. The waterfront had nice quiet areas and bars with music and happy people. We did enjoy the waterfront a lot.

Thanks for your review.

How was your first time cruise director Zach?

Most of my cruises I could not have told you who the cruise director was. We saw Zach a lot on the cruise, but I do not need a cruise director so I do not know what people expect from them.

Which specialty restaurants did you try and what were your faves/disappointments?

The Free Ferry was not working. We were told another ferry was arranged for NCL passengers when we went out to the ferry area the people out there knew nothing about a free Ferry arranged for NCL passengers so we ended up having to buy our passes for the ferry . I was disappointed with that.

We ate at the Supper Club the first night and I did not like the food. We only had a choice of Salmon or a Veggie Burrito. DH said the salmon was good. My burrito was not something I enjoyed. Dessert was good.

Bayamo-the waitress told us we could only get 1 app, 1 entrée and 1 dessert. Kind of made me mad, but the food was not any where as good as it was at Ocean Blue. We both had lobster tail that was dry and had no taste. My DH was disappointed in the Lobster Bisque. He loved it at Ocean Blue but said Bayamo was just OK.

LeBistro-everything I ate was good. DH once again said everything was better on the Breakaway. The service was so fast that we were out of there in 45 minutes.

Cagneys- the ribeye was awesome. I could have eaten one of them every night. Service there was slow. It took 20 minutes to get a drink.

Moderno-I loved it. I could have sat there all night eating meats. I felt all the meat was good and wished I had a bigger stomach. DH said he did not like it. Some people are never happy.

Italian restaurant-It was good. I love the warm bread and dip. DH actually said the Minestrone soup was the best he ever had! Service here was good.

Food republic- I loved. DH did not like. We tried 6 dishes and all but one I thought were excellent.

Pincho Tapas-I practically had to drag DH here because he was convinced that it could not be good because it was empty every time we walked by, but he was amazed at how good every thing was! The waiter was great about explaining to us what everything on the menu was. We could watch the food being prepare and the chef came over to talk with us about the food. When we go on the Escape again we will be sure to eat there a few times.
