emerald6273 Posted April 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2018 If ship docks at 7am in Fort Lauderdale what is a realistic time for a flight departure from Miami to Cancun? As we're visiting from UK hoping to spend weekend in Mexico before flying home.
CruiserBruce Posted April 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Noon. Discussed here frequently. The drive is 40-45 minutes. MIA is very busy, and you are flying internationally.
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 1, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2018 Yes Noon the earliest since you still have to get from Fort Lauderdale to Miami. What date are you arriving? Keith
emerald6273 Posted May 1, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted May 1, 2018 March 2019. Am I mad doing such a short break in Puerto Del Carmen? Prior to our cruise we're doing 4 nights in Lauderdale. Looking for somewhere 3 nights post cruise plus we're able to use miles for flights. Already done Key West, Miami, Naples etc in previous visits. We had thought about option of disembarking 2 nights early from our Reflection cruise in Cozumel but shame to cut short an 11 all inclusive cruise. Rare Keith1010 Posted May 1, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2018 Can you be a bit more specific on the date? I am asking so I can see how many ships are in port that day. I am guessing March 1 or March 22. If that is the case looks like Noon would be OK. I would not go for an earlier flight. I wouldn't disembark earlier either. emerald6273 Posted May 1, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted May 1, 2018 Yes March 22. I have option of either 8.40am , 10.55am or 12.28pm from Miami International. Sent from my SM-G930F using Forums mobile app
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 1, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 1, 2018 I would go with 12:28 PM. 8:30 AM is not doable and 10:55 AM is too risky. There will be a lot of traffic on the road from Fort Lauderdale to MIami. Keith

Rare Keith1010 Posted May 1, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 1, 2018 Absolutely. This way you don't have to spend half the cruise worrying about making the flight. Keith
JohninDC Posted May 1, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 1, 2018 UberX or standard Lyft (good for 2-3 passengers who do not pack like my wife :( ) will run about $35-40 from PE to MIA. I too would suggest the 12:28 flight.
SandyMIA Posted May 23, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 23, 2018 Simply use tri-rail train direct to Miami Airport and forget about the traffic. http://www.tri-rail.com
julie3fan Posted May 27, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 27, 2018 How do you get to the Tri-Rail station from the port?
Z'Loth Posted May 27, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 27, 2018 The rule of thumb that I use is the five hour rule. I would not book a flight any earlier than five hours from when the ship is scheduled to dock, and allows for padding for any unexpected ship delays in arrival and/or clearing the ship with customs. Since you stated you are "visiting from UK", are you traveling on UK passports? If so, you may want to plan on being one of the first passengers off as you will probably have to see the custom officials directly.
