firecaptdave Posted May 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 27, 2018 Hi, First time cruiser and poster. We have $150 per person onboard spending credit for our AK cruise on the Millennium, sailing June 22nd 2018. Can we use the onboard credit for specialty dining restaurants? What else can/can't we use the credit for. Thanks!

Rare garyl62 Posted May 27, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 27, 2018 Yes you can use it for specialty dining. Basically you can use it for anything that gets charged to your sea pass account. It will just show as a credit against all your charges. You can not use it for a deposit on a future cruise, nor can you cash it out at the casino, but you can use it to gamble and any winnings can be cashed out. You can use it for dining reservations that you make before your sailing if you'd like to book them now.
gerelmx Posted May 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2018 Welcome to CC + the previous comments You can purchase anything in advance in your cruise planer, like shorex, beverage pkg, internet, gifts- Bon Voyage
leaveitallbehind Posted May 27, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2018 Your OBC is applied against all charges made to your room account without discretion. The total of all your charges is offset by the total OBC you have - the net balance is then applied to your credit card at the end of your cruise. Rare cruisestitch Posted May 27, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2018 " the net balance is then applied to your credit card at the end of your cruise." ONLY if it is refundable. If it is non-refundable credit, unused by the end of the cruise, it is lost.

leaveitallbehind Posted May 27, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) " the net balance is then applied to your credit card at the end of your cruise." ONLY if it is refundable. If it is non-refundable credit, unused by the end of the cruise, it is lost. I think you misunderstood what I am saying and also took my statement out of context - here is the full statement I made: "The total of all your charges is offset by the total OBC you have - the net balance is then applied to your credit card at the end of your cruise". I was commenting only on how the OBC is applied to ship board charges, and the "net balance" I am referring to is the total remaining amount charged (or applied) to your credit card after the OBC is applied. In other words, if you have a $100 total OBC and $300 of total charges, $200 is charged as the net balance due to the cruise line on your credit card. I was not commenting on refundable v non-refundable OBC's or how any of it would be given back to you - only on how the OBC is applied. Refundable and non-refundable OBC's are applied in the same way to your on board charges. You are correct, however, that any remaining OBC at the end of the cruise that is of the non-refundable kind is lost. Rare cruisestitch Posted May 27, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2018 Yes, I took the phrase "applied to your credit card" to mean that the excess went into your credit card account. That only happens when you have more OBC than you spend, as you know. If you spend more than your OBC, you either make up the difference in cash or it gets charged to your credit card. (We sometimes forget that not everyone has a credit card on file.)

helen haywood Posted May 28, 2018 #14 Share Posted May 28, 2018 If you ever have two types of OBC, refundable and non-refundable, Celebrity will use the non-refundable OBC first. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare cruisestitch Posted May 29, 2018 #19 Share Posted May 29, 2018 The OBC is coded...check your account on the tv, or ask Guest Relations. If the OBC comes from Celebrity it is non refundable.
jkgourmet Posted May 29, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 29, 2018 So how do you find out if an OBC is refundable? Look at the accounts section on the ship TV. The OBC tagged with a "R" is refundable. A "N" Is non refundable. Easy to tell once you know the secret code. There is ONE thing you cannot use any OBC to purchase on board (besides using it for future cruises, evidently). If you want to play in the Texas Hold 'em tournaments, it's cash only. Yesterday, I brought home a nice Michael Kors bag when DH found out about this. :)

I have always used obc for poker tournament entries. I will have another data point to add to the evidence in a month's time. Mike

Rare cruisestitch Posted July 19, 2018 #25 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Flipflap, I’m not sure what you are asking but I will try. Your purchases on board are not subject to VAT or US state sales tax except in certain cruises which sail entirely within the EU, and then there is VAT added to the purchase price. Under some conditions passengers who are not citizens of the EU can apply to have some of that VAT refunded to them on their departure from the EU. In those cases, you receive instructions on board.
