Two formal nights necessary?

Recommended Posts

I really don't think that qualifies as guts.

More like I don't care.

FWIW, I also don't get bent out of shape if my fellow guests do not adhere to the 'suggested' attire.

And I second that.

When the quality of food dropped in the dinning room our interest for dressing for dinner dropped too.

So if I dress up does the food taste better?... First 10 years I cruised starting in 1980's(Honeymoon), just for myself 1-Lg Suitcase, 1-Lg garment bag & 1-carry on. For 7nite cruise having 2 formal nites, 3 Semi-Formal(coat/tie) & 2 Casual(slacks/Dress shirt) nites. Dressing up every night just for Dinner I packed: 2-Suits(coats/pants), 1-Sport coat, 3/4-Long Pants/slacks, 6/7-Dress Shirts, 7-Tshirts white, 7-pair Dress Sox, 5/6-Ties, and 2-pair Dress Shoes. Wife liked me dressed up and rewarded me for it... Now I travel Solo with 2 suitcases but this for a 33nite cruise inc 2nite hotel stay.

Thanks, but it just doesn't make sense. [emoji848]

If the MDR is not up to snuff, try a SR.

Chops, Giovanni's, Wonderland, CK, CP150, etc....

Don’t get me started with speciality restaurants I have better odds in the casino. Just think you pay for dinner you may or may not get something worth eating, one thing is for sure it will take 2 1/2 hours for the occasion.

That's just sad.

I went to a wedding last month and the invitation stated "formal attire requested."

The nerve of those people! I dress like a slob on a normal day, therefore I should be able to dress like a slob wherever I go!

That's the mentality of some cruisers, unfortunately.

I live in Houston I can go to two or three steak house here and two steak dinners for the price of one at chops.

I can go to Taste of Texas for what I spend at Chops and have a steak that is 10 times better than chops, with twice the service.

So I know what a good steak dinner is

When in Houston look me up I take you out to dinner.

This is where some of the other cruise critic members have had a Evening one that comes to mind his our Host Bob.

Come on down John.

Will do, need to sail Liberty some day.

FWIW, had a fabulous filet at Giovanni's on Mariner. $35 including the 18% service charge. Took around 90 minutes as I recall

Due to the high number of D+ and PC, they let us do the BOGO on any day we chose

I absolutely love formal night!!! I love getting dressed and making it a big 'to do.' And whoever I'm sailing with gets dragged along! Whether it be my boyfriend or dad they must dress up too, but it's not as bad as pulling teeth to get them to. It's just part of a cruise I thoroughly enjoy and grew up doing. I get people don't but I do :) You don't have to but it is fun and different!

I love formal nights! Th opportunities to dress up on my regular life are very seldom, so I look forward to primping up and feeling like a million bucks. No one is forced to dress up, it is SUGGESTED attire, so I don't see how a 2nd formal night is detrimental to anyone.

(y) Same here for formal nights.

I used to love formal night. I used to love seeing men in their suits or even tuxes and women in gowns, etc. But after cruising about once a year over the last 15 years, I've gotten pretty tired of it. Packing for the warmth of the Caribbean or the Mediterranean and still having to bring a suit, long sleeved shirt and tie has become tiring. For my part I would rather just bring a sports jacket and a good pair of pants to wear on no more than one formal night.

We've had buffets as well.

PC lunch on Mariner was al fresco going thru Suez Canal.

Yeah, but from the pictures you posted...that was one very fancy buffet!! With violins, white table cloths, etc. :D;)
