Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2018 No need to take a cruise to watch whales.....this rare southern right whale is putting on a great display in NZ's capital City. sewgood Posted July 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2018 I watched the video. Wow what a sight. Lots of people on the dock. I think he was loves being the star attraction. I had a Jack Russell like that.
possum52 Posted July 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2018 How amazing to be so close to the dock. This time last year we were watching the Southern right whales at Warrnambool where the cows come to have their calves at Logan's Beach. Didn't see any when we were there two weeks ago, although there were reports there was a cow in the bay later in the day after we had visited in the morning. You could certainly see them just past the breakers without the use of binoculars, particularly when they breach. Leigh

Rare MMDown Under Posted July 8, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 8, 2018 Thanks. What an incredible experience to see the whale so close. I was thrilled to see a mother and baby whale close to Eden. I had only seen whales on whale cruises before.

I think it's a bit of a secret up here in NSW. Looks like we will have to head down to Victoria next July. Karryl
possum52 Posted July 9, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Karryl, the whales usually visit between June and October and it varies from year to year how many there are and when in that time frame. This year so far there doesn't seem to have been too many but at the same time last year there were quite a few. It's a beautiful area to visit with the Great Ocean Road close by. Docker123 Posted July 9, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 9, 2018 A couple of weeks ago there were some whales off Williamstown Beach. I think they were just tourists having a swim.
