Shoppie124 Posted August 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2018 Calling all parents! How do you keep your kid from charging a bunch to the room? Besides tying them up in the cabin.[emoji23] I want her to be able to buy things just don’t want her to spend hundreds on ice cream. She’s been to Disney and understands the power of the magic band! KittyloverCA Posted August 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2018 How old is your kid? My 13 yo was good about spending. He had a soda package, so that wasn’t an issue. He bought gelato once but actually came to the room to ask me if it was ok. Maybe just set a budget with her, review your account daily with her and cut her off if she’s not being responsible. Shoppie124 Posted August 3, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted August 3, 2018 She’s good about spending if it’s her money.. I once gave her my credit card, while I was pumping gas, to go get something to drink. She came back with a bottle of water and 4 fidget spinners... yummysbakery Posted August 3, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2018 You can set her up with her own account. Put whatever limit you want for her. When it's gone it's gone and she won't be able to charge anything else . Sent from my 2PQ93 using Tapatalk

yummysbakery Posted August 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2018 When you check in just ask for a separate account for her. You can use cash or a Pre paid visa to fund it. Cash is good because if she doesn't use it all (lol) it will be refunded to you on the last night of the cruise. You can always add to the account as you see fit but it gives her a bit of responsibility and accountability. outtabux Posted August 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2018 You can also check the balances on the TV in your cabin to see what she spends everyday.
Sauer-kraut Posted August 4, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Tell her she has X amount for the cruise, and that you will check every evening what her balance is. If she spends it all on the first night..... so be it. It will help teach her responsibility.
Budget Queen Posted August 4, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2018 You've got bigger problems, if telling her how much she can spend isn't something you can do with any success??

You are totally correct on this one! One day she’s really good and the next day she thinks I have a money tree. sanger727 Posted August 4, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Second the post about setting up separate accounts for the two of you and making hers cash. That gives you a good teaching opportunity about budgeting and if she runs out early she will learn a lesson. Shoppie124 Posted August 4, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted August 4, 2018 To be clear, I don’t mind her having a couple hundred dollars to spend. I just know she could easily blow through $300 in 5 days in ice cream ( saw this firsthand at gymnastics camp). She also tends to be generous. She has been known to give kids money for lunch at school. I was looking for a way to limit her spending but still allow her to spend. jb456 Posted August 4, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Pretty sure normal ice cream cones are free. At least the ncl ships I been on. There was a machine and you make your own cone. Vanilla, chocolate or mixed. She can live with that instead of the fancy ones lol

No sprinkles or toppings If they have Oreos then she can make her own cookies and cream Sent from my iPad using Forums

He is not responsible on a cruise. Can you say two new watches and other "stuff". Wouldn't that be funny when he goes to use the card and it's out of money!?! esm54687 Posted August 4, 2018 #24 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Be warned...... the video arcade room will be your biggest concern..... you use your card to activate a game and sometimes there's a delay in the credits being applied so an impatient child (and adult) may swipe multiple times thinking the first swipe didn't process. Guest Services aren't that forgiving if you complain a $100 charge took place in the arcade (games run between $1 - $5 so it adds up)....... it may be a pain but you can also go to Guest Services daily and "recharge" her account with cash so she doesn't blow through the $400 on day one.... He racked up a few hundred in internet charges on the first day because he hadn't logged out. Fortunately guest relations sorted it out but he was not allowed internet access for the rest of the cruise.
