The painters took down all my blinds, including the one by my shower, even tho' I requested that one stay. I was looking for some curtain panels to put on a tension rod and of course couldn't find them in the 5 boxes I opened. Not opening the other 30 in the basement. Now have a "lovely" large towel over the bathroom window instead. Should be on the market in about a week. Realtor says if it settles while I'm on SS in November, she can deal with it. Missy It's great that you have a realtor you can trust! We were lucky that way too! Hope this all goes smmothly for you! I'm not looking forward to the unpacking. And have a glorious time on your sail in November! You must really be looking forward to it!
Rare jpalbny Posted September 15, 2019 #2627 Share Posted September 15, 2019 (edited) Hi coolers! Home from a fun weekend getaway to Burlington, Vermont! Left Friday night after work and made good time. Even moved our dinner reservation to 8:00, from the 9:00 we'd originally planned. Church Street Market on the way home to the hotel. The next morning it was a bit rainy so we went to the Ben and Jerry's factory tour. Fun enough, and a tasty breakfast sample at the end. Triple caramel. Then, time to pay our respects to old favorites. We were so sad to see that Vermonty Python had been laid to rest here. We did a little hike at Camel's Hump park but the views were still not great. Back to town for lunch at a brewpub. Then we wandered the waterfront. The sun was peeking out. It was gorgeous! Time for more hiking. We did about 4 miles at Niquette Bay. Tough going. Some decent views and a beach. Now on to Red Rocks. Easier trails and better views. The view from our room wasn't bad either! Lake Champlain is really beautiful. Dinner at a French bistro. Delicious pork chop entree for me. Today we took the ferry back to New York. A fun ride! The lake was calm and the sun was warm. A pleasant hour. We got there early so time for a few more pix before boarding. The car is tucked in nicely. We even got the first spot, so we were first off! Last view of Burlington. Dramatic silhouette of the mountains behind. A quick photo stop at Ausable Chasm on the way home. New York has pretty places too! Now time to clean the fish tank. Oh well. The fun has to end some time. Edited September 15, 2019 by jpalbny

Rare jpalbny Posted September 16, 2019 #2630 Share Posted September 16, 2019 That looks like some of our roads, mysty! Though to be fair, it's not as bad this year as it was last year. You're posting a little earlier than usual - off to an early start this week?

So much to do and my brain does not do "idle" at this point. My lists are starting to multiply and corralling them is now an exercise in futility. The move date is September 24. Hopefully by the middle of October I will have regained some measure of sanity. 🙂
Rare jpalbny Posted September 16, 2019 #2632 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Oh goodness. That must be looming close now. You've got this! If you can plan a world cruise, you can do this. One list at a time!

Rare jpalbny Posted September 16, 2019 #2635 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Well. The fish tank cleaning was quite the adventure! We have a bit of an algae bloom so after I drained the usual amount of water, I was taking out a few pieces of live rock to scrub them down. As I lifted the largest piece, something fell off the bottom. It was our resident Bobbit Worm! We've had glimpses of that sucker for years but never saw the whole thing. But there he was! Google Bobbit Worm if you want to have trouble sleeping for a while, BTW. I expected him to hide rather quickly but he seemed unsure of what to do. So I grabbed a pair of barbecue tongs and grabbed him. Then I managed to toss him in with the waste water. Game over. Or so I thought. One of the fish had apparently gotten I to the waste water too! So I had to carefully bail out the water, hoping that the worm wouldn't attack me, or chow on the fish. Once the level got low enough, I found the fish, netted it, and got it back into the tank unharmed. Then I grabbed the Bobbit and put him in a kitty litter bucket. He's a monster! He's about a foot long in this picture. If he's still alive tomorrow after work, my local fish store owner wants him. A real cool specimen, but not reef-friendly. He's been in my tank since we've had it (11 years now) and he's eaten his share of fish. Glad to finally have him out of there!
Rare spinnaker2 Posted September 16, 2019 #2636 Share Posted September 16, 2019 JP , Took a few Pygmy rattlers that found their way into our pool with barbeque tongs too. Versatile tool. They were renamed the snake tongs.
jillyf Posted September 17, 2019 #2637 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Leaving tomorrow for our Broome to Cairns cruise. My suitcase is packed with summer clothes as it’s in the mid 30s in the north. This morning it was 3c here. We have 5 nights in Broome before boarding the Coral Discoverer a 72 passenger ship. They have an explorer shallow draft boat that fits all passengers as well as several zodiacs. 25 years ago we did an inland Kimberly trip so it will be great to see it from the sea. The cruise goes from Broome to Darwin then around the top to Cairns. That’s 3 weeks aboard and I can’t wait to be back at sea. The first part will focus on scenery and history, the next part is aboriginal art and culture. It should be very interesting. I’ll try to post some thoughts about the cruise as we go along but the area is pretty isolated and not sure about Internet.

Daveywavey70 Posted September 17, 2019 #2640 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Is Bobbit a reference to John Wayne JP? Never heard of them. Is it a marine tank or tropical you have?
Rare jpalbny Posted September 17, 2019 #2641 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Davey. It's a reference to Lorena Bobbit. Nuff said...

He was still kicking when I checked on him this morning. If he looks ok tonight after work, I'm taking him to the local fish store as planned. Should I see if Chris wants to hold him on her lap for the car ride? 🤣😨😱 Edited September 17, 2019 by jpalbny

Daveywavey70 Posted September 18, 2019 #2649 Share Posted September 18, 2019 Have a fantastic time Jilly. Sounds like you won’t make the same mistake as me taking only 2 pairs of shorts to Alaska.I never knew how hot it would be! JP, I used to have quite a large tropical tank, I had a few coolie loaches that evaded me for years. Nothing like as bad as your bobbit but I understand your frustration. Rare jpalbny Posted September 18, 2019 #2650 Share Posted September 18, 2019 So the Bobbit survived another day on the litter bucket, and tonight we drove him to the fish store and his new home. The employees were pretty amazed by him. He really is an impressive specimen! Now he has a tank of his own and won't be eating any more of our fish. A happy day for all! And mysty, no worries! I let Chris drive, while I carried the worm bucket. Still happily married! ❤️ Have a great night all! 2
