Does anyone have any tips on the Mediterranean Cruise 10-23-18 to 11-3-18 Looking for good excursions, with Princess or other companies.

Have you joined the roll call for your specific cruise?

If not go to the Princess Roll Call board then go to your ship section and see if someone had already started one. If not start one yourself on a new roll call post.

There is a “sticky” topic at the top of the Princess forum that tells you how to find your roll call. I would guess there is lots of info there as your cruise is within 2 months. The port of call boards are also very helpful.

An idea of what ports you are stopping at would help if you want some specific advice.

Looks like you're on the Crown P from Barcelona to Rome with the following ports: Toulon/Provence, Livorno (for Florence, Pisa), Katakalon Greece, Mykonos Greece, Santorini Greece, Montenegro, and Naples. Best advice was given above: join your Roll Call. These are all wonderful and scenic places to visit. From Naples people usually visit the historic sites of Pompeii and/or Herculaneum; there's also the isle of Capri off-shore and Sorrento around the bay from Naples and south from there, the scenic Amalfi Coast. Mykonos and Santorini are both charming (with their white buildings with blue roofs) and we've just walked around. when there. Can't help with Katakalon or Montenegro. It sounds like a wonderful itinerary!

Here are my suggestions:

1. Pisa/Florence: either book princess or private. Pisa is about 20 min from port. Florence is about 1:45 from port. My wife and I did private van to both Pisa and Florence with a few stops in between. You really don't have time to see all the nice things in Florence if you go to Pisa. The 3hrs round trip drive takes up time. Pisa has the leaning tower and a few other monuments. Florence has the churches and museum. Lots of shops in Florence in the downtown square where most everything happens.

2. Katakalon Greece: This is Olympia Greece which is where the original and first Olympics were held. It is about 45 min bus ride to the Olympic site. The site is very nice and lots of history. There are lots of stores and pups at the port for shopping and eating. We took the cruiseline tour.

3. Mykonos Greece: Here we just walked from the ship into downtown. The ship will have shuttle buses that take you to the town; the town is about a 20 min walk along the water. We walked because it is so pretty. The town is cool. It has all these walking streets that go nowhere. The town was built with the walkways that stop and go up and then stop. It was made to confuse pirates when they came ashore to raid the town. You can get lost; because you think you are walking the right way or headed back to the ship and next thing you know your are further away than you wanted to be

4. Santorini Greece: One of the prettiest spots in Greece. The town of Fira is where you dock. You have to take a cable car or donkey to get to the top of the town. Lots of churches, shops, and pups. The town of Oia is picture perfect. When you sail in it looks like snow on the mountain; but its the pastel homes on the side. You can take taxi, bus, or shore excursion to Oia.

5. Naples: if you can only do one thing in Naples and you have not been to Pompeii; you should go. However, if you don't care about ruins then go to the Almafi coast which is gorgeous.

6. Kotor: Have not been

7 Toulon France: Here we went to St. Tropez. Went to the little town and ate in a quaint restaurant, and went walking up to the castle on top of the hill; which overlooks St. Tropez

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions let me know

In the port for Florence, if you do not want to drive so far to Florence, Just take the train and you can stop in Pisa to see the Leaning tower and then go on to Lucca which is a wonderful walled city where you can rent bikes and ride around the entire city then walk around and have a cappuccino at one of the many cafes....

In Kotor, any private excursion that includes the Lady of the Lake stop will be worthwhile...

We were on this same itinerary in May and loved it. Very port intensive but so much to see. I won’t repeat what’s been said above but will mention we took private tours in Marseille, Florence, Katakolon and Naples. Watch your roll call as there will most likely people organizing small groups. Much more enjoyable and frequently less expensive than the Ship tours.

Re: Kotor, be sure to get up early (about one hour before arrival) to appreciate the approach into Kotor. It is what they refer to as a fjord type approach and just gorgeous. It is a tender port and the ship sits in the middle of the bay. Beautiful walled town with lots of history, shops, churches and great local food. Also tours to local area, in particular check out Our Lady of the Rocks.

We also enjoyed the local vendors outside the walled city, all selling dozens of varieties of olives, cheeses, bread, snacks. We bought a sampling and sat in the grass enjoying an impromptu picnic before returning to the ship.

You may already be aware but Rick Steves book on Europe is extremely helpful for all of the ports you will visit. Have a wonderful time!

And hopefully Angela is still onboard as Cruise Director. She is absolutely hysterical!
