Mariner of the Sea - Why SOOOOO expensive

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are having a family reunion cruise next June 14 on MarinerOS. The prices are ridiculously high and may prevent some from coming along. DH and I are paying 1800 for a balcony room; this is a 3 Day Cruise!! I could do a 4 day Disney for the same price. We also have a 5 day Celebrity balcony with tips, drinks, and $300 OBC for only $1335 total.

Please dont suggest changing the cruise since plans, vacations, etc. are already set for most. I just want your ideas as to why this much money for a 3 day-er?

Summer pricing, supply and demand, best ship in the 3/4 day market now.

I suspect it does have to do with summer pricing. My friend and I booked a 3 Day cruise on the Mariner for October, and only paid $1000 (after taxes & gratuities) for our balcony room.

I think the recent ship refurbishment as well as the Coco Cay renovation plays a big part in the price surge.

Back in February I booked a 4 day on Mariner for March 2020 for just $899 for an aft balcony and solo to boot! That $899 is including all taxes/fees PLUS $100 in OBC!

I've been tracking prices for this sailing ever since and it's only gone up up up to where it's almost $1200 now for the same sailing.

I agree that the prices on Mariner are high, and I am predicting that once “Perfect Day at CocoCay” is complete, prices will go higher. I was just looking at my invoice for Sept 7-10 (not Labor Day weekend) and even with a casino discount, I am paying almost $1,000 for a Junior suite for a 3-day Cruise. I am now receiving many casino offers for Sept-October cruises on Harmony and Allure, and I am paying less than that for a 7-day Cruise!

I see $1226 for a double balcony on TA website. 5 mins research

Where do you get $1800?

It's not even $1800 on Royal's site

You need to look around harder for better rates

I see balcony rooms for 2 on that June 14 cruise for a total of $1,655.14 including all taxes and fees (but not insurance or gratuities). So, it is not quite $1,800 unless you are including those optional items. For comparison, the best price I can find for a 3-night Disney cruise in a veranda room next June is $2,878.68 for the June 7 cruise on the Disney Dream. All other Disney cruises in June cost more. So, you cannot do a Disney cruise for the same price unless you give up the veranda or cruise during a different month.

tree_skier...do you mind if I ask when you booked? We're looking at an end of April 2020 and there isn't anything that low. Insides are very low, but once you put 3 in a room not wanting a pullman, price starts to creep up.
I booked August 14th for an April 26th 2019 sailing date. But i am mistaken about the size of the cabin. It is only a interior. I've booked three cruises in the last little bit and got them muddled. The other two are balcony suites. sorry

I agree with this....We have 4 day Mariner booked for this upcoming Monday. I just checked out the same date cruise for next summer and it's $1000 more than we originally booked at. I know our cruise is sold out so it is doing very well...plus changes to CoCo Cay must be a factor too.

That’s not great to hear about MarinerOS, but great to hear that X is so cheap! Do you mind sharing details?

For the OP - Not knowing the circumstances, the time to ask the questions of why so high should have been right when the plans were first talked about. Then you could have all made the decision together about cruiseline or ship then.

Who ever planned this reunion should have done some research before making the choice.

1. If it is a 3 nt weekend cruise....they're always more expen$ive than a 4 nt Mon-Fri cruise to the same place.

2. It is summer pricing. Schools are out; prices are high!

3. September through December generally cheaper except if cruise has a holiday in it.

4. They know most working people have to arrange vacations/flights/hotels and will pay more in summer.....

and they know local working folks will fill up the weekend booze cruises.
