Price dropped but travel agent MIA

My June cruise is showing for around $200 less than what I paid. I sent my travel agent an email at the beginning of the weekend but no response. I called and left a voicemail yesterday and no response. Normally, I wouldn’t bother to call on a holiday weekend except this sale is over in 10 hours. I called Celebrity to see if I could change it, but they said there’s nothing they can do about it. My travel agent is the only one who can touch the reservation. I’m a bit miffed to say the least. Any suggestions from anyone about what can be done?

Don't know what your cancellation policy is on your original reservation, but you could always do a courtesy hold on the new reservation. Hopefully your TA will be back before the sale (and / or the hold) expires. If the TA doesn't return, cancel that reservation (if no fees / penalty) and just go with the new (and transfer to a different TA!).

 

Make sure the perks are equivalent. Also, if the TA is giving additional perks, those could be affected by a price reduction as well.

Sorry,I have no help for you now, but in the future can you get the agent's cell number? Or change to an agency that is staffed over weekends and holidays.

Unfortunately, this is a small, family-owned travel agency. I’m regretting going through them for myriad reasons, but they had offered a good amount of OBC. Lesson learned, I guess.

Holiday week end in canada and US. Many family agencies closed today and Sunday.

Make a new reservation with Celebrity, when your TA gets back to you, compare your current and new and if/what your TA will add to the new. Then pick one. The hold should be about a week to settle this.

Working with small, family owned, agencies is great, you should try to support small independent businesses, but to be professional, you should have their cell and, if unavailable, someone to cover their absence.

Make a courtesy hold for a new reservation. Take a copy of it and email it to your TA and let them deal with it tomorrow.

This is why I usually avoid an agent if I can. Other than getting some extra OBC it’s just not worth it half the time as I can usually monitor and get a better deal myself with a direct booking. It’s frustrating I know.

I agree. I find price drops and promos are usually on weekends so I want an agent that is open on Sundays.
