Joebucks Posted September 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Thinking of getting a birthday cake for my girlfriend on my upcoming cruise through the fun shops. Looking at the chocolate one. Has anyone tried it? Is it worth it?
A&Jfamily Posted September 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2018 I am not a chocolate eater but many say it is quite good. If you have told Carnival it is her birthday, they will bring a mini chocolate cake to her, and sing happy birthday in the MDR...so I am not really sure it it worth it. Just my $.
Mutumbojimbo Posted September 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2018 We ordered a cake a few years ago for a graduation and it was really good. We took it to the dining room and the servers brought plates to our group.
Cruisin Trkrs Posted September 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2018 It's amazing to us! We love the choc cake!!! The mousse filling is sooo good. The choc ganache is kinda heavy, but still good. Lol we've ordered the 6"(I think it is) small size every cruise since Feb'16. That one gets eaten quick. The bigger one IS really big (to us),so for 3-4 of us it's too big, we don't get it anymore... But yes, our vote is that it's well worth it! They decorate them nicely also. sunonfire Posted September 17, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2018 I bought the chocolate cake for my son’s birthday this past February. We had it on the Miracle. It was excellent - definitely worth the money.
trvlgirlmq Posted September 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 17, 2018 That chocolate cake is so good! We had one and just kept eating on it all week. The one they will bring in the MDR if it is your actual birthday is not chocolate (at least mine wasn't). It was good too but white cake and white frosting. If you set it up ahead of time you can request chocolate.
bury me at sea Posted September 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2018 The chocolate birthday cake from the Fun Shops is really good. It is rich and a small one goes a long way.
ricew001 Posted September 17, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2018 My sister sent an anniversary cake to our room last August. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

Cherries Jubilee Posted September 17, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2018 For me personally the chocolate cake tastes just ok. It reminded us all of a devil dog. It’s nothing special but it’s good enough and the small one really does go a long way.

otownslpr Posted September 18, 2018 #15 Share Posted September 18, 2018 It seems to be the same cake as room service free cake
RS77471 Posted September 18, 2018 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2018 We have ordered both chocolate and white...Both are surprisingly VERY good!!!!!
Lottacruises Posted September 18, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 18, 2018 It is good! It's a nice thought, but remember there will be food galore and they will give her one in the MDR. You can't go wrong either way. Have fun!
Doggielover68 Posted September 18, 2018 #18 Share Posted September 18, 2018 I have heard that it is good and I want to try it...but I'm always much too full to eat the whole thing with so many dessert options all over the ship. I suggest getting a slice of cake from the coffee shop. They are really good and the slices are very reasonably priced (2 or 3 dollars). 1bellamarie Posted September 18, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 18, 2018 SO GOOD! We had the gluten free vanilla with strawberry filling-honestly, one of the best birthday cakes I've ever had. And I've had a LOT of really good cake.
Out of Iowa Posted September 18, 2018 #20 Share Posted September 18, 2018 The complimentary MDR cake is awful: like fluffy (in a bad way) cardboard. It's nice to have it presented and all, but the cake - there are so many, many tastier dessert options on board: from the nightly menu to the coffee shop's delicacies, the chocolate cake from Room Service is very tasty.....just not the "gratis" cake. Ick.
missholly24 Posted September 18, 2018 #21 Share Posted September 18, 2018 I've had both the vanilla and chocolate and they were surprisingly good. (for only $10-20!)

cruisemom67 Posted September 21, 2018 #23 Share Posted September 21, 2018 MDR cake is more show than taste. The one from the shops is really good! We just bought a slice for my daughters bday. Not the whole thing as there are just TOO many other free things to try!
LuckyStar Posted September 21, 2018 #24 Share Posted September 21, 2018 When we booked our Carnival cruise, I noted that it was my birthday cruise. They automatically brought me a cake at dinner one night. Very special and great tasting.
cruisesmakemehappy Posted September 21, 2018 #25 Share Posted September 21, 2018 It seems to be the same cake as room service free cake The free room service cake is the best. My son goes from family members cabins to family members cabins ordering them when he visiting everyone. lol
