JuiceePeach Posted September 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2018 I never been on a cruise but I'm thinking about going on one next year What document/documents  must I have in order to go on a Carribean Cruise I thought I needed my passport but I have heard it's not required
bury me at sea Posted September 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2018 In general a Caribbean cruise beginning and ending in the same US port doesn't require a passport, assuming you are a US citizen. There are other very good reasons to travel with a passport. All cruise line require documentation to board, usually an official birth certificate and a government issued photo ID, if not a passport. It can get more complicated. Think minors with a different last name or without both parents, outstanding warrants, and on and on. Check the website for each line you are considering. bury me at sea Posted September 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2018 You're welcome. I hope you find the right fit and have an incredibly good time on your first cruise. It took only one for me to become hopelessly addicted.
sloopsailor Posted September 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2018 While not needed, it is always a good idea to bring your passport if you have one. In case of an emergency requiring that you leave the cruise early, a passport will make it easier to get back home.
George C Posted September 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2018 I would get a passport
Rare Itchy&Scratchy Posted September 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2018 all three of us have passports, even though we never venture outside the US aside from cruising. You just never know when something may happen and you will find yourself in a different country with no means of getting home by air. Like a medical emergency. Rare LHT28 Posted September 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2018 if you have a passport just take it ..just make sure it is valid for the Countries you are visiting Some lines require passports even on closed looped cruises PS a good idea to put in your profile your Country of residence ..it will help with some answers EG: USA, UK
wheezedr Posted September 22, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 22, 2018 While there is not a requirement for a passport on a closed loop cruise, if you already have one it is the simplest document for you to use . It will satisfy all your ID needs.
Philob Posted September 23, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 23, 2018 If you're going to travel with the birth certificate and gov't ID and your name is different between the two (marriage, ex-marriage) make sure your bring a "bridge" document(s). If you're going to travel with a passport, just book with the name on the passport, no additional ID docs necessary.
