Norwegian Getaway - cigarette smoke question

We sailed on the Norwegian Escape earlier this year and even though we enjoyed the experience, we felt the atrium and areas near the casino reeked of cigarette smoke the entire trip, even when the casino was closed and ship was in port. The smell just lingered and it was bad enough that we avoided the area. We are now considering booking the Norwegian Getaway. For those who've cruised on Getaway, what was your experience like related to the cigarette smoke around the casino area? Was it bad/Did it linger or was it not really noticeable? Thanks in advance for sharing your opinions.

Hi, we sailed the GA 9/9/18 for the first time and my wife and I did not notice any cigarette smell anywhere other than the casino. We’ve never smoked in our lives, but the smell of tobacco does not bother us. At. All. Enjoy.

Edit to clarify: We never tolerate the smell of tobacco when sitting on our balcony.

Been on the Getaway twice and have the same experience as you. Outside of the casino didn't really notice the smell at all. In the casino it was definitely noticeable, but not like some of the other ships I've been on where you feel like you can barely breathe when you go near the casino because the smoke is so bad.

Just off the Getaway a few weeks ago. Never noticed any smoke smell except in the casino.

I will say I have sailed both Getaway and Escape, and if it bothered you on Escape, it is slightly worse on Getaway. Just my opinion. I thought both were tolerable, but smelled it more on Getaway.

Never been on the Getaway, but been on the Breakaway many times, and that whole area always smells like a truck stop motel to me. I deck 7 midships entirely, and only go near 6 and 8 when I absolutely necessary.

I feel the same about Jade. The entire middle of the decks 6, 7 and 8 smelled like smoke. Except the Grand Pacific - it was fine.

My mom's cabin was all the way forward on 8, and you could smell the smoke while walking all the way to her cabin.

The Getaway is a sister to the Escape so your experience will be similar.

We were on the Getaway in late October, I found it very smoky, especially the casino and areas around there. And it’s quite open so it spread and lingered.

We just returned from a cruise on the Getaway's sister ship, Breakaway out of New Orleans.  We spend alot of time in the casino and I have to say we did not feel overwhelmed with smoke in there.  Perhaps it depends on where you spend your time.  There are some wider open areas with more air-flow and then there are more crowded areas where it is warmer and the air doesn't flow quite as much.    There is a small no-smoking area but strangely it was close to the more enclosed space that didn't disperse the smoke as well.

Also, we have cruised 7 times on the Escape(out of Miami) and I have to say that the air-purifiers they added last year did improve the air in our opinions.

The only place that I have ever noticed smoke smells is actually in the casino.
