Nonnie1975 Posted October 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2018 We are thinking about taking the March 30 Grand Princess out of San Francisco. We would like to go 3 days early and to the wine country, rent a car and then come back and drop it off. How far is it to the port, cost? Would it be possible to get back to the airport and have Princess pick us up if we use their EzAir?

Don’t know about cost to go independently from SFO to the port but no matter how you fly there you could take the Princess transportation from SFO to the ship on the day of the cruise. Rare Hlitner Posted October 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Most rental car agencies have offices in the city within 1-2 miles of the port. You could choose the closest drop location to the port and use an inexpensive taxi or even less expensive Uber to get to the pier. Hank

elliair Posted October 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2018 If you decide to drop it off at the airport, you can take the Super Shuttle to the port as well. It would be cheaper than doing the Princess shuttle or even a taxi. The pier is quite a ways from the airport. We've taken the Super Shuttle to and from the airport to the pier. donaldsc Posted October 29, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Use Google Maps to find the distance and any of the many Google or Uber taxi fare calculators to get the cost. Really easy. DON
JWUC Posted October 29, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Another option is to drop the bags off at the cruise terminal before returning the car. If you return the car at the airport (either SFO or OAK), you can easily take BART to the Embarcadero station and either walk, take a cab or muni to the pier.

Many of the downtown agencies have very restricted hours, though, and are often a lot pricier than the airport locations. Plus, using a downtown agency means you have to get downtown in the first place. Assuming the OP is heading out as soon as they arrive and can handle their luggage, picking the car up at the airport, dropping it back there, and BARTing to the Embarcadero is the most cost-effective route and not at all difficult. DaveOKC Posted October 30, 2018 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2018 We used Hertz and dropped at the Marriott Courtyard near the Space Needle. No drop charge.

ATSEAMYLIFE Posted November 1, 2018 #11 Share Posted November 1, 2018 Going all the way back to SFO and wait for PC transport is a waste of a couple of hours. We visit SF several time times a year and I was just there yesterday. Some of the hotels are also rental car drops. I just spent two nights at the Hilton Union Square and they are an Avis drop off and the parking lot right across the street is a drop for about 2-3 other rental agencies. I UBER'ed from the hotel down to the port for $14. Personally I would rent a car at the airport and drop off downtown. At SFO you will have to take the Air Train out to the rental car center (10 min). Best to go out there, let somebody wait for luggage, and then drive back to pick them up. dkata Posted November 6, 2018 #13 Share Posted November 6, 2018 For convenience, I'd rent a car at the airport, then return it near Fisherman's wharf. Hertz has car rental office at 500 beach Street- Fisherman's wharf. From there, you can either walk or take the short Uber or taxi ride to the cruise terminal.
