Liberty OTS Schooner Bar

Does the Schooner Bar on Liberty have a smoke scent, due to its proximity to the Casino? We're just off Adventure OTS last month, and I was disappointed by how much the Schooner Bar smelled like an old ashtray.  Just wondering if that's pretty a consistent problem for these ship designs that have this bar right next to the casino exit.

Smoke does drift in from the casino at times and is most noticible around those seats next to the casino entrance.  However I never had the impression that Schooner smelled like an ashtray.

Sit closer to the piano and the windows.  There's probably some drift along the walkway tables and bar but it's never been that overwhelming to us.

I don't remember smelling smoke at all in the Liberty Schooner bar, but we sat near the windows each night.

A little in the walkway between the two, but I’ve never noticed it in the main area of the Schooner Bar. 

And I’ve been there five times in the last two years.

My wife is very sensitive to smoke and she has never mentioned anything in or around the Schooner bar nor did I notice any. We just got off Liberty last week.

Schooner bar is one of my favorite spots on the Liberty.   Never noticed much of a smoke problem there.

+1 agree.  Love the Liberty and the Schooner bar is our favorite hang out spot.

 

To the OP, the problem might have been specific to the Adventure OTS. Perhaps it's climate ventilation system was not up to task?

Adventure and Liberty do have the identical layout for the aforementioned venues, but I have also never noticed smoke in the Schooner Bar.

 

Now, the Centrum on Radiance class ships is another matter...………….  😮

That is a perfectly designed cigarette smoke distribution system.  I don't think they could come up with a better design.

Thanks for the feedback and comments! Maybe it was just Adventure, that particular cruise, or something else about that ship. I don't remember any issues on Navigator but I only went in there once before disembarking for medical emergency. 

 

And also giving me second thoughts about booking a Radiance class ship 🙂

True. I was just wondering if there was something specific to the Adventure or that particular sailing. Maybe the ventilation system was malfunctioning, allowing stale smoke to drift in from the casino?

We were on Radiance in 2017 for an Alaska Cruise. It was cold and rainy most of the time so the smokers spent a lot of their time smoking in the casino. The smoke rolled out into the Centrum making it almost unbearable. 

Pretty much ruined my experience on one of Royal’s most beautiful ships.

Just off Liberty last Sunday. The assistant cruise director, which I presume is the activity manager was Enzo (sorry, don’t know the last name).

We've sailed on Liberty 4 times (most recently in July) and each time the stale cigarette smoke was so unpleasant in the Schooner Bar that we couldn't sit and enjoy anything there.  This was true during the day as well as in the evenings.

Just off Liberty this past Sunday the 23rd, and Enzo is now the CD with Bernardo as the AM.

This has also been our past experience as well, but this past week it wasn't nearly as bad as before.  Don't know if they made some changes to ventilation, but we were able to enjoy lots of time in Schooner Bar with not much, if any, smoke smell out of casino.

There is a staircase on the freedom and voyager class ships that connect the middle of the casino (deck 4) with the middle of the royal promenade (deck 5). I often can smell smoke when I'm on deck 5 near this staircase -- more than smelling smoke in the schooner bar. Did you notice this also on the Adventure OTS?

I haven't smoked for 17 years. I did not notice any undue smoke smell in the Schooner Bar. I enjoyed the venue. It's a great place to sit and read while partaking of libation.

I've been onboard Liberty all week and the Schooner Bar was not nearly as bad as my experience onboard Adventure. Still, wish they had some doors separating the casino.
