We are taking the 15 day Panama Trip with our kids and 2 year old grandchild.  They want to go to the beach for the day and I am looking for two things:

1)  Are the beaches at the dock clean and can you rent chairs and especially shade

2)  The resorts nearby have day passes.  I am looking for suggestions for which ones and your experiences and prices at those.

Thank in advance and happy sailing!

We were there a couple of years ago on the Pacific. Didn't go to the beach next to the dock but it looked clean. Didn't notice any shade or chairs (they might have been there...I didn't look). There's nothing much else close to the port.

We did a Princess excursion to one of the resorts that most likely has day passes as well. It was very nice. The included lunch was a buffet and it was adequate. I don't recall the name of the resort, but it was located so that the bay was on one side and the ocean was on the other side. It took 30-45 minutes to get there in the provided van. The distance from the port might make it expensive in a taxi. There were a couple of beaches, some other activities (don't know if they were included). We just sat on the beach, snorkeled a little and relaxed.

Have you tried asking on the appropriate ports of call forum?

Can you point me in the direction of the Mexico ports forum?   I can find Mexican Riviera and Panama Canal, but not Mexico.  I already put it on the Panama Canal forum, but there are cruise boats that go to Huatulco that do not go to the Panama Canal.

Our experience in Huatulco was that the beach, within sight of the pier, seemed very clean.  There are also numerous restaurants/cafes along that beach, most of whom "rent" loungers.  Keep in mind that many things, including the price of loungers, are negotiable in Mexico.  The vendors will likely ask for at least $20 for a couple of chairs although some "entrepreneurs" might try for $40.  When we walked along that beach we "heard it all" and finally made it clear to one of the vendors that we lived in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta for part of the year) and did not pay for loungers!  We negotiated a deal where we would buy drinks and lunch....but the chairs were free :).  The place that agreed to this made me promise not to tell anyone (that day).   We really enjoyed that beach, the water (which seemed very clean) and the food.  Many of the crew (from many ships) also routinely use that beach since its convenient to the ships.
