Again, I go back to my previous comment that the only thing that would make you happy is totally banning smoking everywhere on all ships.

He wouldn't be the first, and won't be the last. There was even a post one time from someone who proclaimed that he should be able to go to any place on the ship he wanted and not have to deal with smoking. He should get 100% of the ship available to him, and smokers should get 0%.
Many others over the years have implied as much based on the sum total of their posts over time.

Then, of course, there is always the fun of the anti-smokers not able to agree on where the smoking area should be. Everyone has a different favorite spot where they don't want any smoking whatsoever. Covers about 100% of the ship when you add it all up.

By Jove, I think you've got it!

There are 6 ships that I know of that have no smoking in the casino.  They’ve already made the smoking area smaller on several ships by putting up the half wall of fake greenery.  Sorry but I don’t think you will ever have what you want which are totally non smoking ships.

The Deck 9 Seaview Pool area serves as an outdoor dining area for the Lido buffet.  They serve coffee and juice in the morning during the breakfast hours.

I'm well aware of that.. I just finished a 7-day sailing on Nieuw Statendam. 🤨

I would love to be on a cruise with you. A wealth of knowledge and common sense. My wife loves your posts also.

Eliminate all smoking indoors and then we can talk.

It will happen, mark my word... just not on our timeline (edited to be more accurate!)

Probably long before whirled peas.

In the meantime, let's all just get along (big hug)   🙂

Very good! When I was teaching, and kids whined about something, I would say "Don't make me quote Mick."

To get back to the smoking issues, I don't smoke and I hate the smell, but I have to accept that people do smoke. I can't think of a better place for the smoking section (from a nonsmoker's POV) than outside on a deck. Maybe the wind doesn't always blow the smoke away, but at least there's a chance that it will. And if it doesn't, I have other places I can go.

Where the smell cannot blow away is the adjacent area of the Lido. On Eurodam this winter, the inner doors between the aft deck and the Lido were usually propped open. Every time someone came in from the bar/smoking side, the outer slider doors opened wide, and a gust of smoke smell blew in. Sometimes worse than others, but it definitely was there. I suppose I should have found a supervisor (don't know that I ever saw one) to complain about the doors, but I just tried to always go to the salad bar on the other side.

The doors are always kept open on every HAL ship I’ve been on. I was told it is for accessibility issues. People with walkers and scooters can’t open the doors. They aren’t automatic bills the doors between the Lido buffet and the indoor pool.

I too have smelled the smoke inside the Lido and won’t sit in the buffet area on the aft portion of the Starboard side of the ship, nor spend time at the aft pool. While I hate the smell of smoke, it’s their right to smoke in that area. So I avoid that area.

If the smoke affects other areas, perhaps HAL needs to move the smoking area.

As someone who has used a scooter on every class of ship (except for the late Prinsendam), I can attest that the doors from the Lido to the deck aft of it are not always open. On the newer ships there are electric eyes, and on a couple of ships there was an electric eye on one set of doors, but not the other set (true on both sides). I could get through one set and then be stuck until a kind person came through and I could continue my journey.

I would thank God for the smoking section right there, with its constant flow of people coming and going. Heading back in I could always ask one of them to get the doors for me. I was always cheerfully assisted.

I would think this poor horse is dead by now. Please stop beating on him. You are not going to change this to what you want, at least not right now.

Never give up.  Celebrity has really restricted smoking on board, no reason HAL can't do the same.

I'll bet you thought there would always be smoking in the casino in all ships.  NEVER GIVE UP.

STOP! People need to smoke and anything you complain about will not detract from that. Give them their nights in the casino (don't go there those nights if you have a problem since they are probably making more money from the smokers) and give them the FEW areas of the ship they can smoke! They are also paying a premium for the SA balcony cabins for which they cannot use to smoke.! STOP STOP COMPLAINING! These are the rules and if you don't like them, sail another cruise line!

But no one in the vicinity of the drinkers is forced to take sips of every glass of booze being consumed around them.

You are correct .

And Smoking, just like drinking,   is not a freedom or a right .

It is a privilege and as such can be regulated to stop the true right of innocent people not to be harmed … which is why a person is not allowed to drink and drive .

No one has the right to harm another human being .
