I think everyone else understands, that’s all that counts.

Everyone?
I don't see a problem. If you want to avoid smoke, then avoid the smoking areas. Problem solved.

Problem not solved for those of us who want to enjoy the casino but cannot due to smoke.

You are 100% correct and that is the problem.  The music walk isn’t supposed to be a smoking area but much of that area does indeed smell of secondhand smoke.

I'm pretty anti smoking but it is dishonest to claim smokers and their travel companions make up a tiny insignificant population of 25 - Seriously ?

Not really.  I’m sure HAL could fine an equal amount of passengers if they announced it was completely non-smoking indoors.

25 ? Seems low .

On the HOLLAND America's ROTTERDAM, cruising out of AMSTERDAM, with lots of Europeans onboard, there were lots & lots of smokers onboard.  The entire Sea View bar were mostly packed, with no extra sitting chairs avail.  Great bunch of friendly folks enjoying their fav vice.

Our group smokes only cigars, so the only space for us is the outdoor bar, no indoor spaces, including the casino.

There are literally hundreds of other public spaces avail for the anti-smokers, including all of our spouses, to spend their time, without venturing into our One allowed outdoor space...

What's the 'inconvenience' in walking around the casino to get from point A to point B? If you're not playing (casino), no harm, no foul, right?

On some ships you can't avoid it without going up or down a deck then back again. E.g. Westerdam, going from MDR to theatre. On my recent cruise on Westerdam I was grateful that smoking in it's casino is banned.

Nothing wrong with a little extra exercise, right? 😉

I’m honestly facepalming myself. It never even occurred to me in this day and age to check that HAL was still allowing smoking inside.    My bad for booking without checking. Sailing NS.

Oh darn..  But you can always cancel.

Let us know what ship and we'll give you an honest assessment of the second hand smoke.

I believe we’re booked on the same cruise. Nieuw Statendam.   I don’t think the itinerary can be duplicated on another line so I’ll possibly save money with staying out of the casino for 28 days 🤷🏻‍♀️

OK - I finally took a look at the pinned threads.

Regarding smoking (not that I have anything against going back and reviewing the prior 695 posts, lol)... where is it permitted (indoors and out)? Unfortunately I see that the casino is one of those locations - Rotterdam.

When we sail on Celebrity, sometimes I can't find the casino (as I'm not led to it due to the smell of smoke) !!

Thanks,

Tom

Smoking is permitted on one side of the Rotterdam casino. The side with the tables is smoke free. The Rotterdam has also added a smoke free area with approximately 30 slots that is 100 ft from the main casino. Smoking is also allowed on the starboard side of the ship just past the seaview bar on deck 9.

Is it allowed:

Smoking in cabins? - No

Smoking in Casino? - Yes but on only some ships

Anywhere else indoors? - No

Smoking on Balcony? - No

We've been on about 10 HAL cruises, but it has been a few years. Hope things have improved.

See answers in red above.
