Their experience is the same as ours and many others. You can continue to whine about how bad it is, but the reality is that it is not bad at all for the majority of cruisers, and that is a happy place to be.

Thanks for the feedback, you have an interesting choice of words.  Here's another description for "Not Bad".  Next time you what to describe something as "Not Bad", try using "Not Good" and you will have an accurate description.  Try this:  "You can continue to whine about how bad it is, but the reality is that it is not good at all for the majority of cruisers ..."  Now doesn't that read better.  The Pinnacle Class ships would be a better place if they eliminated all indoor smoking areas.  Feel free to "whine" about that if you wish.

Doesn't read better at all. I stand by my original statement..

Wow, what?  Did you not understand the question?  Or do you feel unincluded as a smoker?

For the record, I'm a nonsmoker, and what I will say about your original comment has not changed. It is still wow, just wow.

See post #809.  That's probably the best approach with some people.

Actually, I would recommend post #811 the better thought out, and more logical/realistic perspective on all of this.

No, I don't think so.  I'll stick with post #809.

Well, just for fun, let's take look at how folks in this thread (albeit a very small subset of all cruisers) have responded to the two different perspectives (#809/811). Looks like the majority of folks here agree with #811 over #809 (currently 12 to 7). Which I suspect correlates well with how the larger population of cruisers feel about this issue.

Smokers probably stay in the casino BECAUSE they can smoke there AND it’s indoors (on the ships that allow it). On very hot or cold days, why would they want to be outside in the bad weather when they can sit for 20 minutes and slowly play a low cost slot machine to feed their addiction?

I hate how my hair and clothing smells after a short walk through a smoky casino.

I wish HAL would remove all indoor smoking and move the outdoor smoking to a location that the 2nd hand smoke can’t permeate indoors.

I avoid the aft pool and aft part of the Lido buffet because of the allowed smoking area outside. The smell wafts in. I do respect that smokers are allowed there but wish it was moved elsewhere.

I just added to the anti smokers count.

Or the majority of folks are following the advice in #809.  I wasn't aware that we were evaluating things based on the number of people say me too.

Okay "Ipeeinthepools" & "KroozNut" could you two just agree to disagree please? Your bickering back and forth has dominated this thread for quite some time and has really really gotten dull and boring.  And yes, before you type it, I know I don't have to read it.

BTW, "Ipeeinthepools", what's with the handle?

Sure, I'm in.. 🙂 But I will reserve the option to continue to chime in on this thread if I feel I have an opinion, or something to contribute to the discussion.

I see you voted for #811.  Maybe you just don't like the suggestion of eliminating all indoor smoking areas.

Not a fact at all as I could care less if they eliminated smoking indoors.  What I don't like is when folks squabbling over and over again about existing rules and regulations.  Learn to live with it or sail with some line that has "no smoking" whatever.

Just off the Koningsdam.   We were walking through the casino on a port day, and the casino was closed.  I said, “why is it so smokey in here? The casino hasn’t been open since last night.”  I couldn’t believe the smell was still hanging around,  then we saw a man, sitting in the corner, puffing away. So, they don’t even need to be gambling to smoke. He was just too lazy to go outside on the lido deck.

I used to agree but I think you should give a HAL a try now.  We've done one cruise on a Pinnacle class ship and we wished the casino smoking would have been eliminated but we really enjoyed the ship in spite of some second hand smoke in the casino and the music walk on the deck below the casino.  Hopefully some day HAL will eliminate all indoor smoking.  There are lots of interesting itineraries on HAL.   Where are you sailing instead of HAL?

We have lately been sailing on really small ships –  Oceania (~1,200), Azamara (~700), Ponant (184), Noble Caledonia (118) – doing destination-intensive itineraries.  So we're used to totally smoke-free ship interiors (and no casinos).

HAL would appeal for 14-day mid-January Caribbean getaways, as there we want a reasonably-priced cruise where the ship is a bit of a destination in itself.  [BBKing and Lincoln made HAL seem very attractive along those lines, except for recent posts about entertainment cutbacks.]  We might never leave the ship – that's why a smoky onboard environment would be a killer.

Our experience sailing with HAL is that their ships are far from 'smoky onboard environments', but quite the contrary.

Smoking on HAL ships is limited to one or two very specific locations, and the rest of the ship is smoke free.

It’s sad that the newest ships allow smoking in the casino.  An opportunity missed, for sure.  The Vista (Zuiderdam, Westerdam, Oosterdam, Noordam) and Signature Class ships (Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam) only allow smoking outdoors by the aft pool.
