Casino info?

Hello all,

 

We're taking our first cruise this spring on the Carnival Pride. I need info on the Casino. Can you use cash to play?  Or do you use the ship card to get gamble money? 

 

If you do use cash to buy chips, do you get cash back? Or do put that money on your ship card.

 

Do they have a program like casino's in the U.S. ware you earn comps while gambling? And if so, do you get a special card for that, of use the ship card?

You can do cash or your sign and sail card. I've admittedly only played the slot machines, but in order to cash out on those you have to put it on your sign and sail card, then take your card to the cashier. They do have a special club thing, but since I just stick to the slots I really never opted in to it. I'll see if I can find info on it though! Happy sailing!

Money

 

Cash is accepted at all tables and slot machines on cruises departing from North America and Europe.Players will set up a Player Bank account in order to upload and download credits. Winnings must be cashed out from your Player Bank account at the Casino Cashier’s Desk by the last night of your cruise. You may also access these funds for continued gaming action at another slot machine.Table players can exchange cash for chips directly at the table or at the Casino Cashier’s Desk.There is no charge at the slot machines to access funds, but any transactions done at a table game or the Casino Cashier’s Desk will incur a nominal service fee of 3% each transaction. You can charge up to $5,000 USD per day on your Sail & Sign card to play iin the casino, or $7,500 USD per day for Invite-only cruises (Premier / Ultra / Premier Plus / Getaway / Tournaments) or $10,000 USD per day for Elite cruises. Please consult the casino staff once on board for further details.Travelers Checks can be used to purchase chips at the tables and credit for the slot machines.

Simply putting your S&S in the machine opts you into the Player's Club

I thought the player's club was a separate thing since you get emails and special benefits. Maybe I just haven't qualified since I usually just hit the casino once a cruise and just play the slot machines? Oh well.

You need to play often to get deals - we almost always play for a minimum of 2-3 hours every night (sometimes afternoon time on sea days as well) and get pretty good cruise deals (discounts on room and "free play" money for slots on Princess ( a Carnival sister line)

Thanks for the clarification. I usually just hit the casino once and try to keep my loss under $30. Not a big gambler but it's a fun time waster if there's nothing going on.

No one really knows what it takes to get the great offers but yes, a bit more than $30 or getting a handpay puts you on their radar.

As an example say you go to the Blackjack table and charge $100 in chips to your S&S account.  They will charge you a total of $103.  100 for the chips and 3 % of 100 is $3 so the total charged is $103.  That's why most people will do it at a slot machine.  At the slot machine you can also charge $100 to your S&S account and the machine will download $100 in credits to the machine.  Play a couple of spins and then cash out your credits to your players bank. Then go to the cashier and get your cash.  The reason I mention play a couple of spins is because they don't want people using this trick to get cash to bypass the 3% and they can lock you out of the ability to charge to your S&S.

What if you buy in at the table with cash?  And at the end of your play, can you get cash back for your chips? Or do they put your chip value on your account?

If you buy in with cash, when you're ready to leave you just take your chips and leave just like any other casino.  Then to get your cash for the chips you just go to the cashier.

Does anyone know if the Carnival ships have the "Chance!" slot machines?

 

I am referring to the ones that go crazy and will spin sometimes spontaneously without hitting the spin button.

I've never used the casino on the ships but was planning on playing some table games on my next one. If I'm understanding correctly, there's no way to avoid the 3% fee (aside from the aforementioned slot machine trick)?

Thanks, that's what I assumed considering that's how it works on land but another post seemed to contradict that

I have seen them but can't say if they are on every ship.  They are usually the older machines.

The 3% only applies if you are charging chips to your onboard account.  If you bring cash with you no problem

For the most part, we always use cash at the casino.  We have a gambling budget, and that helps us stay within our means. There are occasions when I'll buy chips on my S&S card. I hardly worry about the 3%, since it's far less than a minimum bet of blackjack. And since I'm gambling, I'm hoping to recoup that 3% quickly 😉
