VOV is one of the very best specialty cruises HAL offers in our opinion,  and you can do many of the ports on your own - they are often very small and you get to dock close to town. Agree, the Roll Call will be the place to get lots of specific info - our Meet and Greet had well over 100 very active members and lots of information was exchanged over the preceding months that really enhanced this unique cruise.

One of the very best and most lasting VOV memories was the slow silent cruise inside the  Prince Christian Sound near the bottom of Greenland - hope this summer's ice break up allows you full passage both ways. Absolutely haunting.  This is a bucket list cruise for lots of HAL loyalists - we had over 800 four and five star Mariners on our cruise in 2017.  You will be in very good company.

We loved the VOV cruise, which is a fantastic itinerary with the benefit of being round trip from Boston.  This truly seemed like the cruise for very loyal HAL folks (so many 4-5* Mariners) and those who love the idea of cruising vs a port intensive ferry cruise.  To us, the only downsides were the price (among HAL's most expensive cruises in terms of cost per passenger/day) and the condition of the Rotterdam (which has since had a major drydock).  DW and I agree that we would do this cruise again, in a heartbeat, when it fits into our travel schedule.

A couple changes for this cruise by Holland America; first,  the ship won't be the Rotterdam, instead it will be the Zuiderdam. More recently, when I was checking HAL's EXC shore excursions, I saw the Norwegian port of Bergen listed while it had previously been Stavanger, Norway. The other recent itinerary changes HAL made were switching around the dates for the Reykjavik overnight port call and two other ports in Iceland.
