Captain's Club 5 dollar matchplay

DW and I always use these. Thirty dollars and we have fortunately won every time. It's good fun for irregular casino visitors

However on our Equinox cruise we were not allowed to use them as promised in the Captain's Club info

We had to play a minimum of ten dollars

The pit boss said they didn't have any five dollar tables. I explained to him the deal and the fact that there would be ten dollars in each bet but he wasn't having it

Is this a new Celebrity scam of their own free offer or was it just this pit boss?

Every casino I've been to on land requires your bet, not including the match play, to be at least the table minimum. Did you really think they're just giving you free money? They want you to play real money.

Now there is such a thing as free play where they give you special chips that you bet like regular chips. But match play is just a match of your bet, not free play so your bet has to follow the rules of the table.

Not sure, but the OP's problem might have been having to bet a minimum of $10 with only a $5 "match" play - not really a match!

Yes, you'd match $5 of your bet (not your entire bet} but your bet still has to be at least the table minimum.

this is pretty much what the put boss said, but this was not a land based casino, this was a celebrity ship's casino and a celebrity offer

an offer they have adhered to on every celebrity cruise i have been on until this one

Were you at a $5 minimum table in the past?

i've never used ours yet, unsure how,

i assumed if i put $5 on they match with $5 to make it the $10 bet is that not the case?

Technically no. You get paid as if you have $10 but it's really a $5 bet and $5 match. For example, if you want to split your hand, you can do it by putting up only $5 and the match stays on your first hand. Or you can actually split with $10 of your own money and now make each hand $10 (but the match is on the first hand with your $5).

For the record, I cringe when someone walks up to the table I'm playing at and wants to only use their match play coupons. They usually have no idea how to play, hold up the game (arguing over $5) and screw up the cards just to play a couple hands and leave. Very frustrating and usually makes those of us with real bets lose.

That is a total myth. Someone not knowing how to play BJ does not "screw up the cards." Someone misplaying a hand has just as much a chance of helping others at the table as it does hurting them.

That is a fact. People only remember when they lost but not when they won..

Exactly the reason we have never used them,

Is it possible to put $5 on red and they match to make the bet $10?

Or would it mean putting $10 on and they match $5 to make 15?

I guess they are just raising the table mins on all tables.  We always used them on roulette red/black, odd/even with a $5 bet.  Probably won't now.

This was my thought put 5 on red and 5 on black, use two match plays, walk away 10 up

Or am I missing something?

How do they work the match now.  It used to be put a $5 chip and a "match" paper down.  How does this work with everything on your seapass?

Hand your card to the dealer, and tell him you want your match play coupons.  He will give your card to the pit boss, and he will bring you the coupons.  😊

Not sure if they let you use 2 match plays at the same time. But that's an interesting theory if they do. You'd meet the minimum and only ever lose if zeros come out.

Though now I forget if they pay you $5 for the match win and convert the match bet to $5. I know land casinos I've been to only pay you the winning but they don't convert the coupon to cash, they just take it.  So if I bet $10 plus a $5 coupon, I get paid $15 for the win and I keep my $10 bet but the coupon gets taken. So I only end up with $25, not $30.

I don't think they have every allowed that.  But then again we have seen 0's more than you would think while using our match play on red/black!  One time twice using the 6 coupons.

Thank you

i agree completely.

sometimes, i bet - on a hunch against the “book” advice.

i may win or lose (thats why its gambling)

it annoys me when some know it all complains. I am not there to make others money, i am there for fun and hopefully to make a little for me. I usually am successful over the course of the cruise, but reject the argument that my play makes or breaks someone else.

For roulette, my understanding is, the $5 match play coupon means you get an extra $5 if you win.

So if you bet $10 on black with your match play coupon, you get $15 in chips if black comes up ($10win +$5 match bonus, Plus you keep your original $10 bet).  So if you win a black/red bet:

Start with $10, end with $25

Start with $15, end with $35

Start with $20, end with $45...
