Bringing soft drinks and water on board

Haven't been on RC in a long time, can you bring water and soft drinks on board? Do they need to be on carry on or regular luggage?

Since can't bring more then 12 total per stateroom instead of 12oz cans I just bring a 12 pack of Bottled Soda 16.9oz and drink water on board

In the case of bottled water I was under the impression that they all had to be unopened (chance of replacing water with alcohol).  Is this correct?

Just so I understand correctly, instead of 12 cans of soda, I can bring two 6 packs of 16 oz. plastic bottles of soda.

Here's the synopsis of the current (effective 9/1/18) rules:

 

You can bring the following onboard for your cabin:

     12 containers of non-alcoholic drinks, each no larger than 17oz.  

     2 bottles of wine, each no larger than 750ml

 

this MUST be in your carry-on, not in checked luggage.

The morning before our cruise we walked over to a gas station convenience store to pick up some water and soda. They had 6 pack of water 16.9oz but no 6 packs of soda. I had to buy 6 single bottles but nothing  was less than 20oz.

Typically a 6 pack bottled Soda is 16.9oz. That's why the "17oz or less rule" Buy them all the time at Grocery stores or Pharmacy's taking 2-6packs on ship in my back pack

The rule says initial embarkation only, your experience may vary.
