Hawaiian cruises on X?

Does anyone have any experience/thoughts on these cruises,  there is a “last minute” cruise out of Vancouver in mid April (would probably do round trip 22 days). Is it a good cruise destination/itinerary or place that should be done on land? How are the sea days generally in the pacific? Rough/smooth/unpredictable?

Thanks

We have done Hawaii a couple times on Celebrity and really enjoyed.   You never can tell what the seas will be like but I would expect it to be a bit chilly out of Vancouver for most of the crossing.

It is a nice way to get  a touch of each of the islands that you will visit.   They generally arrive each morning at a different port (except for one overnight).  I chose to rent a car in each port and tour on our own.   We were easily able to go to the top of Haleakala out of Hilo and to Volcano National Park out of Kona.   Since we were in Lahaina for two days I had a car for two days.  Visited all of the top sites.

If you want to have more time you might do just one of the two cruises and spend a week on one of the islands.

In May 2017, to celebrate our 25 wedding anniversary, we did the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise on Solstice, with a four day pre-cruise on Oahu’s north shore and a three day post-cruise in Victoria.

It definitely was our best travel experience so far: On Oahu, we loved the Polynesian Cultural Centre, Diamond Head, the Hawaiian Palace etc. The people, the culture, the weather and the sites were just fabulous! On Maui, we will remember our experience visiting the Haleakala Volcano and we have collected beautiful images from the Volcano National Park on Big Island. Also experiences that were memorable.

For the crossing, weather (which is always unpredictable) was a factor: moderate seas (13-15 feet waves), cold and rainy. This limited the outdoor enjoyment. However, the ship handled well and other indoor activities such as the ship inside tour, kept us busy and entertained. The crew on Solstice was also phenomenal.

Given the opportunity, my wife and I would do it again in a heart beat!

Enjoy your trip!

We did the Solstice Hawaii cruise last April and the weather was a bit cool and rainy/overcast for a number of days. I was concerned about so many consecutive sea days but we only had one or two real rocky days but they were not too bad. Celebrity also offered a number of free Hawaiian cultural activites onboard such as hula lessons, lei making, etc. which were very nice. We booked some island tours on our own such as a segway tour in Honolulu, Hawaii Tasting Tour in Maui and a Pearl Harbor/Missouri Battleship tour. FYI, On the Big Island there was a free shuttle that went to/from the port to Walmart all day which was convenient for buying souveniers, toiletries, etc..

I have no experience, but we're sailing 12 days from Vancouver to Honolulu, with 3 days post cruise.  Compared to where prices were a year ago, these sailings are a total steal!

Thanks, are you on the April sailing? The prices do look good

Yes.  We were originally doing a transpacific on the Millennium until they changed and altered the itinerary, offered us $200 to remain or switch.  I remember seeing Aqua on Eclipse going for $3,500 (+/-) when eyeballing, seemed like a great opportunity to switch!

And they have 2 big drops in May and June when Tutu Pele becomes angry (2A drooped $1,200 and $800)

Yes, we are on the return sailing, Honolulu to Vancouver Apr 29, Eclipse.   The prices have dropped quite a bit because these cruises are now beyond final payment.  I would book it.

We have done this cruise 4 times, one direction or the other, and loved every one of them.  It's a no brainer out of Vancouver.  Pack some sweaters and light rain gear as Vancouver is much cooler than Hawaii but should be nice in May.

Expect rough seas between Vancouver for about 3 days before reaching Hawaii or vice versa.   Also, it will be on the chilly side those same days.   Celebrity ships have great indoor pools, though.  And ... If you like sea days, though ... this itinerary is the best!!

Once in Hawaii, if you are a fan of being in the casino, be aware it does close down while in the islands.  At least, that has been our experience when doing these sailings.
