I have a question - why did they name the new ship "Nieuw" Statendam; couldn't they just have called her Statendam?

Maybe for marketing purposes?

I thought it interesting that during the dedication ceremonies yesterday that Mr. Ashford had a brief review of the history being the Statendam name.  Plus on the video wall, the name Statendam was in bold print with the "Nieuw" in smaller, lighter print.

The third Pinnacle that comes out in 2021 will have a "Nieuw" in front of her name also, I'm afraid

I think I am just going to call her Statendam, and skip the Nieuw!

Someone put that name in Wikipedia, then deleted it. Hasn't been officially decided yet. I'm hoping for Prinsendam

I have been holding out secret hope that the would buy a ship/whatever of a small size and it would be the Prinsendam. 😉

somehow to me, Prinsendam doesn't fit a Pinnacle Class ship but it would be a nice remembrance.

I'm afraid the smaller ships with HAL are history
