What are your favorite slot games

It's been my experience that the slots on the ship are tighter than a land based casino, at least the casinos we've been too.  That being said there always seems to be someone doing pretty good at any given night on the ship.

My favorite slots are the conventional 3 wheel mechanical slots like Double/Triple Diamond, etc., although I think have won more on video slots.  I can't remember the name of the 25 cent video slot but the wife and I each won $400 on different nights on it..... haven't seen that one again in a few years.  Some people do well on Wheel of Fortune but it hasn't been very kind to me :classic_wink:

My favorite machine is Triple Red Hot 7s. They usually only have them in either $1 or 25 cent denominations. I've seen penny and nickel versions in land-based casinos, but never on the ships. Whatever denomination you play, you've got to be willing to max bet so you'll get all the lines in the bonus, which seems to hit pretty often. And the music it plays is also very catchy!

DH walked up to it, put in a dollar and won $100 on the first spin. I was immediately like "Cash out! It's a trap!" :classic_laugh:

They had a penny version of it on the Ecstasy a couple years ago, we played it several times because of that "siren song" music :classic_laugh: I think the best I did on it was $40 starting with $10.

To answer the OP, our favorite was the "Instant Spin" penny slots that same cruise.

Uh oh. If I find a penny version of it, I might not move from that chair the whole cruise...that music just lures me in!!!

On some ships, the max play for some penny machines is $8,88.  And, if someone doesn't play max, they don't qualify for a jackpot.

I've seen more than a few people stare at a machine or call an attendant over when it appears a winning jackpot combo has come up but don't hear bells and whistles going off because they only played one line of a 3 line game or 5 quarters instead of max 9, or $.90 on a penny machine with a higher max.

I'd rather play an old fashioned two coin $5 machine than an $8.88 penny max.  Much better ROI (return on investment). And what I can't stand is when a machine display floats gold coins in the air for winning 2,000 credits, or $20, on a penny machine.

My highest jackpot was $3,750 on a 3 quarter machine.  I've gotten W 2G's for hits over $1500 my last 3 cruises.  Hoping to do so again on next week's Premier or March's ULTRA cruise!

Yeah some of those penny machines are ridiculous with the max bet amounts. They lure people in with the dancing gold coins, and a lot of people don't bother to actually read the small print or look at the pay tables before they start pumping their cash in. That said, some of them can be a lot of fun to play, so I always have a small budget to blow on slots. The majority of my gambling money goes to blackjack or, if I want to sit at a machine, video poker. Even with Carnival's lousy pay tables on video poker, it's still a lower house edge than slots.

I once won $4000.00.  It was a royal flush on a dollar video poker machine.  It was early in the morning when my husband was still sleeping.  I had bought a cup of coffee and decided to just sit down and enjoy the quiet casino.  I hit it immediately.  It was the second morning of the cruise.I went to the cabin and threw the money all over the bed. Happy husband.   On my cruise last month I won a few hundred dollars on the first night and couldn't win anything after that.

A Vegas trick is to simple ask the casino staff which slots are looser and they often actually answer you.  Has anyone ever tried this?

No, no one ever thought to ask.  If the floor casino staff actually knew, don't you think they would save that info for family and friends?

There isn't any guaranteed jackpot, the house still maintains it's edge.  This is common in Vegas with the thought process being if they tell you the looser slots you'll spend more time/money there.  I'm going in April and am not a slot player but I'll ask and report back.

No, they won't tell you because they don't know.  If they actually pointed out a machine and you hit a jackpot, it would trigger big red flags and if you didn't win, you would complain.  They will say they don't know or  laugh.  They are literally asked a thousand times a day.

I did some searching and found multiple people who claim they asked the to the casino manager the payout % who stated the hold/payout is set at 80% (awful!).  Assuming every machine isn't set to 80% and they tighten and loosen certain slot machines, it's usually only by a few percent so the jackpot odds are hardly going to be affected as most will still lose.  Never hurts to ask and even if they laugh at you, smile because you just gave someone a good laugh 🙂

80% sounds about right for a casino with a captive audience. The ones in the airport in Vegas, for example, are set in the 75-80% range.

Assuming they follow the same pattern as land-based casinos, the higher denominations are usually set to a higher payout percentage. I wouldn't waste my time asking anyone about "loose" machines though. Find a machine you can afford to bet whatever is needed to qualify for any progressive, bonus, all symbols, etc, and have fun.

If you want a machine that is going to be "looser" than any given slot, go play video poker instead...

Sound advice.  Usually the payout increases with the denominations so a $10 machine should have a slightly higher payout than a $.01 machine yet it could still only be a very small percentage.  The house is still going to have a huge edge.
