Rare 1025cruise Posted February 10, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2019 Well, Half Moon Cay is a beach stop. Grand Turk pretty much is as well. For Freeport, take a look at the Bahamas ports of call forum.
cb at sea Posted February 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2019 HMC is the private beach for the ship. It IS a beach day...no effort on your part at all! Freeport will require some sort of transportation to do almost anything.....definitely google it, and use the Port of Call threads!!
angie7911922 Posted February 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2019 As others have mentioned, Half Moon Cay is beach day, so save your beaching for that specific day. On Grand Turks we hit Her Majesties Prison - it's a historic prison. If you like history, it's neat to see, and we went to the lighthouse, and the Salt House. Freeport - I was disappointed, but there will probably be a lot of good information on the Freeport Port of Call thread.
pacruise804 Posted February 12, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2019 Grand Turk can be a nice beach day too, either with crowds right off the ship, the pool at Margaritaville, or walk a bit to a quieter section of the beach. Freeport is a very industrial area where you dock, so you really need to do some sort of excursion unless you just want the little shops and bars or to stay on the ship. We really enjoyed the Kayak excursion offered by Carnival, but there are lots of ways to do independent excursions or have a taxi take you somewhere. When we booked the Carnival excursion we had a limited amount of time in port, the excursion was appealing with a reasonable price (and couldn't easily find the same thing at a better price) for us. We were pleasantly surprised to find they split the large group into 3 smaller groups so it never felt crowded, which is a common complaint about ship excursions. CoW mAn Posted February 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2019 There's nothing to do on your own in Freeport so I do strongly recommend booking an excursion there but for Grand Turk you can have a lovely day at the free beach right next to the port, just bring $5 to rent a floatie... pacruise804 Posted February 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2019 How close to departure time were you trying to leave? There is another thread discussing coming and going as you please from the ship and yours was the first any had heard of being refused departure while in port.
