Steaks on Board

I did NOT like the ribeye steak in Tuscan. The filet was good however.

If you have a lawn club grill the steaks are the best there, EXCEPT for the Up-charge steaks in Tuscan. An up-charge in an up-charge restaurant? You’ve got to be kidding me!

who thought of that?

The steaks in Blu or mdr can also be good (not quite excellent)

Apparently someone smart.  I'm willing to pay $20-$25 on a cruise vacation (ONCE) if I want a good aged Porterhouse.  Even If I paid for my trip and also paid to get into the restaurant.  We're a captive audience

The "Lawn" is an alternative restaurant on some of the S-Class ships.

Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection--both Solstice-Class ships--are the only ships in the fleet which offer Lawn Club Grille as a specialty dining option...

Are you cruising on Equinox? If yes then this is one of the ships where you can see the menus for each night in the Celebrity App. This can help you plan for which night to eat at a specialty restaurant.

Yes Equinox, but I already booked the restaurants based on what I will be doing during the day and how exhausted I expect to be when I get back on the ship

Forget aged meat - just not going to happen on board a cruise ship.

I really hate to be so negative, because we do love most of the food in Blu - seafood, other meats than beef (lamb, veal, pork), but we were also disappointed with the Prime Rib in Blu - thin, overcooked, and covered with gravy!  We ordered it again without gravy and it wasn't much better.  Just had such a hard time getting meat that wasn't grey, even when ordering it RARE.

We make it a point on cruises to have our steaks in the city where the cruise leaves from, New York, etc.

There's an upcharge for the steaks on top of the upcharge to eat in the restaurant?

Sounds like those would be the best steaks on board...

They are, Murano also very good. Steak in the MDR ? Very, very average to poor. You get what you pay for on Celebrity these days and paying the standard cruise fare  no longer gets you a quality steak, or lobster in fairness.

We were on the Reflection last November and we went to a ‘How To Cook A Perfect Steak’ seminar at the Lawn Club Grill. The chef for the Lawn Club was giving the seminar/demonstration. Somebody asked why the steaks at the Lawn Club were so much better than the other dining rooms. His response was ‘all dining rooms use the same supply of meat but he has chefs vs. line cooks preparing the meat and his chefs know how to cook’.

NY strip in the MDR was tough, tasteless and a disappointment-- I like it rare-med-rare

Steaks in Tuscan Grill and Lawn Club Grill were nice... and we got them the temp we asked for...

Chateaubriand in Murano  is outstanding

I think most line cooks know how to cook a steak. Do you think it was the same meat in each venue ?

It is same steak,  don’t forget main dining room most likely steak is cooked n waiting in lawn club it’s thicker cuts n you get served immediately.

Just off the Equinox less than a month ago. In the MDR the New York was awful, tried by 2 different people on different nights.  Over cooked (even after being  sent back) very thin and shaped like a slice of cheap white bread. Barely resembled a steak. Very disappointing as we have had good properly cooked NYs on past trips.  Prime rib on night 1 was very good. Short ribs were delicious. Lamb was good 2 different nights. Veal was only okay this trip and only served one night.  Best steak by far was in Murano - this trip and others. Delicious. We have had dinner in the Tuscan grill on  past trips and found it to be hit or miss. Murano is the place to go.

We had the NY strip in Luminae on Edge in January and it was terrific.  Didn't see a written description because this was just before they decided to print up the Luminae 'everyday' menu choices.  Definitely tasted like Prime.

Thats a huge difference. Steaks precooked for the masses vs steak cooked to order. Also matters if a steak is cooked on a sheet pan with 40 others vs cooked on a grill.

And that makes a huge difference. But generally all the same ingredients but preparing is way different.

  • 4 years later...

I hate to be a thread necropsy specialist, but could anyone comment on how this has changed post covid?

We are on Apex - in retreat class. Love steak and would probably go for a couple filet mignons during the cruise.

How is the meat quality these days in the different venues?
