Oooo! Thank you for that warning! Certainly our experience of sailing the Pacific Ocean further south have not been that smooth, but thankfully, we are both reasonably good sailors (dare I write that....) though I will take heed and preparations <G> Yes, I'll post straight to my blog as usual, assuming reasonable internet connections, of course. Will Franck still be on board do you know?
Rare forgap Posted March 22, 2019 Author #177 Share Posted March 22, 2019 I would assume so as he got on in either Singapore or Bangkok. I’m not sure where he is in his contract, however. He’s a lovely man.
Travelcat2 Posted March 22, 2019 #178 Share Posted March 22, 2019 The Bering Sea is one of the roughest in the world (and we have sailed that itinerary). The Mariner was once in 30 ft. waves in the Bering Sea.
merlot101 Posted March 23, 2019 #179 Share Posted March 23, 2019 When you were in Hong Kong, what money did you use. Did you exchange US $ to Hong Kong money? Thanks
Rare forgap Posted March 23, 2019 Author #180 Share Posted March 23, 2019 We used Hong Kong dollars that we got from the ATM and we used credit cards. The exchange rate now varies from 7.5 to 7.8 HK$ to a dollar.

Thanks Whenever we go to Hong Kong (which we will be on April 18), credit cards work in most places, but you do need HK$ for around town as they don't take the US$. Have your bank here in the US get some for you, if you exchange in HG be very care on exchange rate and exchange fee's.
Hambagahle Posted March 23, 2019 #182 Share Posted March 23, 2019 Just withdraw HKD from an ATM at the airport on arrival - you will get a better rate than from a "Moneychanger" and your home ATM card gets debited... Above all else do not bring USD to change into HKD and don't get HKD in the US because that rate will be about the worst you can get. (True in any country for that matter...)
