ginger and professor Posted February 27, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2019 With all the new additional charges should we consider more for the corp to increase revenue. I have noticed that vegan passengers complain about the meals, perhaps a $20-30 uncharge for those who eat meat. Another source of income would be use of the pools which are costly to maintain, we have a pool at home and never use the ones on the ship, maybe $50 surcharge for pool privileges. Perhaps the attendance of the entertainment for those who don't go maybe a savings of $100. There are so many additions for the pay as you go patrons that could result in increased revenue. What do you think? 1

What do you think? Read the other thread "One Main Course", where HAL is testing the idea of charging $10 if you ask for a 2nd entree at dinner in the MDR. Of course, you could go to the Lido and ask for 5 entrees and it would be served. Just another cash grab !!

OlsSalt Posted February 27, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 27, 2019 (edited) 1. Rental charges by the hour for Lido or Lower Promenade deck chairs. Install each with a coin-op parking meters showing a red violation flags when the time is up. Or if left abandoned for any reason for more than 20 minutes. 2. Charge for use of Lido outdoor tables, if not used for immediate food consumption during regular Lido food service hours. 3. Metal detectors in all library book spines to curtail the theft of library books upon disembarkation, as alleged by HAL CEO Ashford. 4. Once a day cabin cleaning service - your choice morning or evening. (We personally don't need the evening service, but do like the morning service.) fatcat04 Posted February 27, 2019 #19 Share Posted February 27, 2019 Charge for every drink on the ship. Tea, lemonade, milk, juice, coffee. (We personally don't need the evening service, but do like the morning service.) On item #2, they already do that on the Eurodam and another HAL ship. On most HAL ships there are rows of free to use tables on both sides of the Lido pool area, while on the Eurodam they installed "Lido Cabanas" on one side and charge to sit there, even if you just want to wolf down a Dive-In burger. On item #4, Carnival had tried that a few years ago. You get a selection card when you first enter your cabin. You can select morning or evening cleaning, but not both. I don't know if that lasted very long as I have not cruised with Carnival in many years.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 27, 2019 #21 Share Posted February 27, 2019 We have long supported the idea of an elevator admission fee (perhaps $5) as an effective way to reduce elevator traffic :). This fee would be waived for those with a qualifying disability. And there could also be a tender fee, a gangplank tax, extra charge for anyone who wants their cabin temperature below 76F, etc. And putting hourly meters (that automatically levy a fee) on chairs in the LIdo and on deck would likely alleviate a chair shortage :). These meters could work automatically with passenger medallions (the new gadget on Princess) which might eventually expand throughout the industry. And then we get to the topic of those that expect special consideration in the MDR, be it Vegans, those with self-imposed dietary restrictions, etc. Since all this does take extra staff time and attention, perhaps a "special services tax" should be imposed on every special request. Or course this fee would be waived for those with documented health issues that require special diets. We have also heard of ideas regarding cabin service. For example, your cruise fare could include only once per day cabin service (from your steward) with an extra fee for those who desire twice a day service. Sure this all sounds nutz, or does it? Look what has happened in the airline industry where folks are now paying extra fees for advance selection of smaller seats. And at one point a discount European airline talked about charging a fee to use rest rooms (this idea was abandoned). Hank

Hank Or even having a seat at all. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/standing-up-airplane-seat/index.html I think the descriptive "cattle car" has become reality on airplanes. When riding on the subway is more comfortable.... you gotta wonder.
