I always look for the book exchange areas on each ship -- or start one if there isn't one. I assume this one is for anyone, not just those who are in Neptune Suites? They'veu been on the Veendam for a several years and I think a couple of other ships. My criticism for the Koningsdam was that when I was there that was all they had and a lot of people did not stop. It seems like a lot of people will take 1 second to be clean but not 20 seconds. Have they installed regular gel dispensers now? Roy I saw them on the Zaandam in September 2016 3 hours ago, Copper10-8 said: Never seen them before on any of the ships; people are using them on this voyage I really liked using them, so easy and practical.

It seems to be something of a mystery, even to the Prinsendam's Future Cruise Consultant. Roy On 3/20/2019 at 9:14 AM, Himself said: Where is the K'DAM going in 2020 after she finishes Alaska? Gents; after finishing her 2020 Alaska season in September next year, K-dam will reverse her course from April 2020 and head back to the Caribbean via Cape Horn/Tierra del Fuego. She won't use the Panama Canal, as you know, due to the angst the Panama Canal Authority has of her lifeboats/tenders partially hanging overboard. So, Summer 2020 in Alaska, Fall, Winter and early Spring 2020/2021 back in the Carib for K-dam

Rare Copper10-8 Posted March 26, 2019 Author #216 Share Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) Tuesday morning found the mighty K-dam back in the Atlantic Ocean via the good ol' Windward Passage. We are experiencing some extremely smooth seas on our way back to South Florida and around 2:00 PM were treated to a dolphin show. Some of the events happening this morning; the "On Deck for a Cause" non-competitive walk, the Kitchen tour, the Mariners lunch and, oh yeah, "O's Reading Room"............ The Windward Passage is the strait connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Caribbean Sea. It is 50 miles wide and separates the eastern most region of Cuba from the northwest coast of Haiti on the island of Hispaniola. The strait has a threshold depth of 5,500 feet and lays on the direct shipping route between the eastern seaboard of the United States and the Panama Canal. The Jamaica Channel, between Jamaica and Hispaniola forms a southwest extension of the Windward Passage. From either the eastern tip of Cuba’s Guantanamo Province or the western tip of Haiti's Nord-Ouest Department, it is possible to see lights on the other side of the Windward Passage. Navassa Island lies on its southern approach. Navassa Island is a small, uninhabited and disputed island, administered as unorganized unincorporated territory of the United States, which administers it through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Haiti has claimed legal sovereignty over Navassa since 1801, and claims the island in its constitution Edited March 26, 2019 by Copper10-8
Rare Copper10-8 Posted March 26, 2019 Author #217 Share Posted March 26, 2019 Had a chance to check out "crew country" on the K-dam today 😀; the "O.B." (officers bar), Crew Mess, P.O. (Petty Officers) Mess, Duty Officers Mess, "I-95", Crew Gym (nice!), Marshaling Area, plus one of the cold rooms (belonging to the butchers) on A-Deck. Impressive looking!

Fred321 Posted March 26, 2019 #219 Share Posted March 26, 2019 Thanks so much for taking the time to post a great report. We have almost 600 days on HAL's smaller ships but decided to try Koningsdam last year just to see what a larger ship was like. Was ready to hate it but really enjoyed the entire experience, especially the Tamarind and Dutch Cafe and the music venues. BB King and Lincoln Center were excellent. Officers and crew were wonderful as usual so we will be back on her for a month in the Med. this summer. We board the Rotterdam this weekend for a couple of weeks in the Carib. and then a reposition to the Netherlands. Any idea who the captain and CD will be? Thanks again.
