It was just about OK (and I forgot to mention how hard the catering and cleaning staff work, for a very low wage) but I really couldn't put it any higher than that.

 

P&O sell a particular product, with a particular place in the market, and provided you accept that in return for the lowish prices charged it's tolerable, provided you don't hit the problems we did.

Difficult to give the positives when you look for the negative. 

 

If you approach a cruise with a positive attitude then you will find the positives.

 

We have use come back from 24 nights on Ventura and it was all positive. 

 

Staff ere excellent.

 

Food was excellent

 

Entertainment was very good, not that I saw much of it but I listened to others.

 

Sea was a little lumpy and the driver kept hitting the potholes.

 

Best thing no moaners.

You'd have been happy with this a couple of weeks ago in a suite, then?

 

"Five days into this cruise and none of the TV channels are working. They haven't worked since day one, and they're still using the excuse that it's satellite interference.

 

No hot water last night, bathroom lights flickering and can't be fixed, shower doesn't drain, front of drawer falling off - and this is in a suite costing a fair bit of money."

 

All of those problems remained throughout the 13 days - apart from the TV, which was working for about half of the time spent on the ship.  The CSM was contactable only via the Carnival CEO because the reception people were refusing to allow access to him - saying it 'wasn't the protocol'.

So docco you had the worst holiday you ever experienced and you want to drag this thread down because of the problems you experienced,but like you said your never going to cruise with them again so seek compensation them move on.

Your being a bit harsh on Docco as he does seem to have reason to complain.

Personally we have liked P&O ever since our first cruise on Aurora in 2003.

There are things that they could do better but  P&O are our still one of our favourite cruiselines whom we have 21 night's prebooked on in the next year.

Best move on Docco especially if you have cancelled all your future P&O cruises.

You have also failed to read the title of the thread - plenty of other threads to whinge on if you feel so inclined.

Let’s get back to the positives as requested by the OP.  I agree with many of the points made above.

 

I like the speciality restaurants, great food and service in them. I also like the tapas in the glass house.

 

The new show Astinishing was really good.

 

The wine tastings and wine dinners are always fun.

 

P&O do special events well eg Christmas decorations.

When we sailed on Britannia last year other positives were that we didn’t have to queue more than 2 or 3 minutes to get on or off the ship, didn’t have to queue or wait long for lifts, didn’t have to wait long when we wanted a table just for the two of us and even when the bars were busy it didn’t take long to get served.

Here is my list, I am sure there is more but this will do for now.

 

These are the things that I like about P&O.

1.    Good range of cruises from Southampton in all months of the year.
2.    The use of pounds sterling for all transactions.
3.    The entertainment is geared up for a British audience.
4.    The staff are excellent, particularly the bar staff who I see quite a lot of.
5.    They have a good range of ships and so you can get a different experience each cruise.
6.    Most ships have a very good range of speciality restaurants I particularly like the Epicurean and Sindhu.
7.    I do like the Glasshouse on Azura and Ventura and although the one on Britannia often seems very busy, I still love that as well. The food you get in the glasshouse is excellent as it is clearly cooked to order. I do love the tempura prawns and the other small dishes.
8.    The casino.
9.    The way P&O do Christmas and New Year is exceptional.
10.    The food is consistently very good with a good range every night. 
11.    Tea and coffee in the cabin.
12.    The excellent kids clubs although we have never used them or sells all the parents I’ve spoken to read them very highly.
13.    Adult only ships.
14.    Long cruises in January and February to the Caribbean from Southampton back to Southampton.
15.    P&O cruises tend to have lots of sea days

 

On a more personal note it’s great to meet staff who you have seen before on other cruises. Club dining is certainly something we prefer as you get to know you’re waiting staff and they get to know you resulting in excellent service, always with a smile.

Totally agree with all of the above.

 

Love your last comment re staff who recognise you. We don't do that many cruises a year (2 at the very most but that is rare). On our last cruise on Oceana the Captain genuinely recognised us -- we had met him 2 years before when we did a Behind the Scenes Tour. He even knew that he had met me before but that something was different. (Spot on as had glasses and hair shorter).  Great Captain, Captain Willard ----- we are cheer leaders! Ha ha

 

On that cruise we also met a number of staff who came up to us and said that they recognised us from our last Oceana cruise. It was like going home !!! Not sure why they recognised us but hope it was for good reasons !!!!

 

Similarly, we met a member of staff we had met on Britannia on Oceana and it was like a family reunion. Hi to Hyacinth and Costa if you ever read these thread. 

 

Fond memories …. great staff if you take the time to get to know them, no matter how reserved they are.

There were a number of very good fish options, particularly at lunch. They did a fish platter with a variety of cooked seafood eg calamari, prawn rolls etc. The trout was also excellent.

Ooh thank you for your reply. Hubby and I love fish and seafood, other than that we’re veggie. Daughter is Pesco pollo veggie and our boys are looking forward to some steaks (as you can probably imagine, they don’t get them at home often 😆 )
