Anyone have any tips or places to see walking around Curaçao before we get off the ship?

We just walked off the boat and followed the herd off to the right and across the bridge. Lot's of local shops and colorful buildings there.

Does anyone know if the doors are metal for magnetic decoration purposes? I’ve seen in other forums people suggest command strips over magnets.

Looks like one of our neighbors has theirs taped to the door.

Thanks for the awesome review! We're sailing Horizon next March and it will be our first experience with Carnival. My kids are HUGE fans of Royal Caribbean Harmony of the seas, and had really wanted us to try the Symphony next March, but the price was twice as much! Carnival has always had a bit of a bad reputation in my mind so we'd avoided it, but the more I learn about all the cool stuff they offer at no extra cost the more excited I get! Gelato bar looks delicious, and I'm really looking forward to trying the world famous Guys Burger. Can't wait to be back at sea! :)

Loving this review! Glad you got your pictures back up and running.  I have heard that there is live music at Pig & Anchor at night maybe? Have you stumbled upon music there yet?  We've got a long way to go for our cruise on the Horizon and I'm sure a lot will change from now to then - but love listening to some live music!

Just FYI for those not aware. Carnival doesn't allow using tape to hang decorations. Nothing that can leave an adhesive residue. Magnets and Command strips are fine.

I wasn't able to view any of your videos from earlier in the thread. It showed the embedded box, but with an error message. I believe it was a video codec issue. I tried everything I could find to fix that particular error, but nothing worked. The only other thing I could do was to switch to either Chrome or Edge. They wouldn't be embedded, but it gave me a link to download each video, then view them with a player on my computer. Too much work. If you decide to do YouTube videos, those always work for me on here.

La Romana looks like it doesn't have anything to do around the port. Is that a port where you have to travel farther out to do something?

Was that a Caesar salad I saw with your pasta pictures?

We have sailed Royal two times.  Once on one of the smaller ships and our honeymoon on Freedom of the Seas.  Royal is not our thing.  I feel like if we have paid $2,000 to $3,000 for a cruise then I should not have to pay $12 for a burger at johnny rockets.  That’s just crazy talk to me.  Not to mention Royal isn’t cheap to start with.  We don’t like being nickel and dimed the entire vacation.  That is what cruising is about for us.  If we want food then go get something and as much as you want.  We have not done one of the large Oasis class ships but they do look awesome.  I just cant imagine not having all the free places for lunch... Guys burgers, Blue Iguana, Pasta Bar, Wok, Guys BBQ....pizza, don’t even get me started on how terrible Sorrentos is compared to Carnivals pizza offering.  To us its like comparing a $5 hot and ready to a slice on the streets of NYC.  (It’s not as good as a slice but using that for the comparison) I mean come on, that’s awesome!

I think your kids will really like all the activities.  The two things I can think of they would miss if they use them are the Flow Rider and the rock climbing wall.  But the sky track is awesome.  The sports area is very fun as well with a ton of games.  One nice thing is the area with ping pong and foosball is in the AC, that was nice today playing the soccer billiards.  The water slides and water park area is very large, but they do not have 32 pools or whatever is on the Oasis class, but at the right times the pools are not crazy busy.

I really think the food offerings and your final bill will change your mind about Carnival in the future!  Keep and open mind!  Would love to hear your report after your cruise.

Funny story not RC related.  I have a family member going on Norwegian this summer...I asked what did they get as their “free at sea” option?  He said, “We did not do the free at sea, it made the cruise way more expensive”.   Wait, I thought free means free? No thanks, we will stick with our red and blue whale tale for now!

There is live music at night in the Pig & Anchor.  They seem to rotate the bands/singers though the lobby, Pig & Anchor and the Ocean Plaza.  You will have plenty of options to choose from for live music!  Cold drink in hand and good music, not much is better than that!  We went to the Piano bar one time so far but we are spoiled from the Magic last year.  Justin was awesome but he has left and is on a Norwegian ship right now.  He could sing really well and he would beatbox some songs.  My wife messaged him on Instagram to see when he would be back on carnival to see if we could book a ship/time with him again because he was so good.

Thanks for the heads up about the videos.  Learning a lot about this process, but it is very fun doing the live review.  We ultimately want to do a cool vlog for YouTube of each trip we do to help other cruisers.  Going to look into uploading videos and posting links to YouTube next couple of days!  I may end up buying Final Cut Pro on my Mac and start learning how to edit videos.

Not much in the port of La Romana.  Our cruising buddies got off and walked around the small port.  They said it was nice and clean, no people haggling you to buy or do things.  Definitely an excursion port if you wanted to do anything, or would need to take a taxi somewhere.  We made it a nice ship day to try the sky ride and relax.  We cruise for the ship more than the ports for the most part.

The Caesar salad was very good at the pasta bar.  It is an option on the menu.

Still have some questions to answer, have not forgotten to those who asked.

Need pictures of ocean plaza breakfast on deck 5, keep sleeping to late which is awesome for us.  We are super busy with work lives and our pups, so it is nice to sleep in for a change.

If they have a certain Casino game

Dining room menus - going to screen shot the menus on the Hub App.

Look for the chef table menu, not sure if it is on the App or not

If there is anything I have forgotten in my notes please let me know and will add to the list!

About to head up to lido for dinner, we walked around Curaçao for a good 2.5/3 hours.  My wife’s Fitbit said she got close to 8000 steps.  It is a very nice and clean port, a lot of name brand shopping.  Have not been to Europe, but if I had to guess Curaçao feels like a European city.  Did not feel like we are in the Caribbean. Will post some pictures later tonight after dinner.

We have sailed NCL and while the offerings are not exactly free we found that the beverage package and the dining package was well worth the taxes and gratuities that we paid.
