TM Posted May 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2019 I'm looking at transportation from central London to the Southampton cruise terminal on a Saturday in August. Princess wants $59 per person which doesn't seem bad but I've not heard good things about trying to get to them at the Victoria Coach station. Any other recommendations that might be in that same price range of $118 for 2 people? Thank you in advance.
Globaliser Posted May 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2019 A first question: Have you tried looking at the number one sticky at the very top of the forum?
Rare John Bull Posted May 17, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2019 RCI / Celebrity charge $100 pp for exactly the same transfer. Or from that same Victoria coach station you can book a National Express coach for £5 pp, then a short taxi (£10 max) hop from Southampton coach station to your ship. https://www.nationalexpress.com/en How difficult it is to get to Victoria coach station depends where you're starting from, and mebbe whether you're happy to use the Tube (London's underground) with luggage. The train from London Waterloo station (from about £15 pp plus that Southampton taxi hop) is another option, but how convenient again depends where your London hotel is JB
dani negreanu Posted May 18, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2019 We've used several times Smiths for airports from London to Southampton, and then from Southampton to Heathrow. I'd highly recommend them. http://www.smithsairportcars.co.uk/ From the Heathrow to central London, though, Simply airports were cheaper.

Because there is a new sticky at the top of this forum devoted to these transportation questions (as Globaliser has pointed out above) I would not normally have continued the discussion on this thread, but since you've mentioned Simply Airports, I want to comment as follows. A number of years ago, we were booked with Simply Airports to take us from our London hotel to Heathrow and they never showed up. I had booked well in advance (by email) and rec'd a written confirmation from them. Just prior to our trip to the UK, I reconfirmed that booking, as I did by phone once we'd arrived in London. When they failed to show up and I called them, first they claimed they could not find our booking, then they told me it was for a different time (which was not true). Thankfully, the hotel concierge was able to get us a car quickly and we made our flight. To the best of my recollection, Simply Airports did not even have the courtesy to reply to the email I sent them about this after we returned home. My recommendations for a private transfer would be to use Smiths for Airports (based in Southampton) and Blackberry Cars (based in London); we've used them both. Excellent service. 2
wheezedr Posted May 18, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2019 Agree with JB that the National Express bus is a wonderful option. We just took a cab to Victoria coach so no real difficulty. Met another couple on the bus so we shared a Taxi van from Southampton bus terminal to the ship. Aid £5 each for the bus.

This is one of the reasons that I don't normally name the company that I use. I expect that all of them have given cause for an anecdote like this; with the thousands of journeys that they do, it would be impossible for things not to go wrong sometimes. What I haven't seen is anything that suggests that any of the "usual suspects" amongst London-based airport transfer specialists (ie between London airports and London) is a persistently poorer performer than the others. FWIW, Simply Airports is the company that we use when we (or guests, family or friends) need a London airport transfer of this kind. The company was recommended by a number of central London-based frequent flyers - the type who are doing one or more trips every week, some of them doing one or two long-haul trips a week - who all thought that it did a good and reliable job. Although we use them far less frequently than that, it's still usually a couple of times a year or more on average. And the company hasn't ever let us down, in either direction. The one time that it couldn't do the job, it immediately said so by email. When I called to find out whether it was true, the call centre said yes, and they were very sorry. But please would I try calling Just Airports instead, for which they provided the number - and Just Airports did an equally good job. That's why I normally simply refer CC queries to one of the "usual suspects", whose names are bandied about here regularly.

We didn't want to be on a bus after the long flight, and we got in around 5-6 a.m. So the private van was really nice. Plus, we ended up with a great driver, went above and beyond! linderr6 Posted May 22, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2019 We recently used Lionheart travel to take us from the port to Heathrow. LOVELY, lovely driver and car and very reasonably priced. He mentioned he also will provide little tours to people when they have time - so, side trip to Stonehenge or to some castle... Thanks. @cpl100: just a tip: many if not most things that are asked in this forum about transfers between London and Southampton have been asked before (which is why there is now a sticky on this subject at the top of this forum), and so using the search engine (in this case, for "International Friends"), if you haven't already done so, is likely to turn up relevant information. This is just one of many threads:
