Galeveston Port Hotels?

What are your recommendations for a 1 night pre-cruise hotel in Galveston? Something close to port, perhaps with free breakfast and free shuttle service to the Carnival ship?

We are a family traveling with children.

Will you have a car? Hotels on Galveston Island tend to be more expensive than those just north of the causeway. We will stay in League City or Texas City and drive onto the island in the morning - 30-45 minute drive. We park at EX Cruise and take their shuttle to the ship.

 many of the island hotels have a 2 night minimum.    Texas City is a short drive away and tends to be a LOT less expensive.

I just booked the Sleep Inn for $74/night.  They have free parking during the cruise.  No shuttle, but ii is about $15 taxi from there to the chip

Slept Inn is  new hotel in Galveston . 

Along with others 5or 6 between causeway and 61st street on way into Galveston on HW45/ Broadway. Should be able to find 1 night at these.

is there anything to see and do in Texas city. There will be 3 adults and 1 six year old. We will only be staying 1 night.

Texas City is what can be described as a blue collar town with refineries.
