Alaska Ferry Workers Strike

Nothing to indicate any effect on Cruise Lines - only thing that comes to mind right now is tying up the lines

on a ship at berth (pier) having to be done by union personnel ?

 

This appears to be centered on the Alaska Marine Ferry - that small ship line that ferries automobiles to

ports that are inaccessible by land i.e. Juneau and provides year round transport between small coastal

cities without roads or commercial air service.

 

At the ports of Juneau Ketchikan and Skagway the Alaska Marine ferry operation can be seen.

For now it appears to have no effect on Cruise line operation.

Why would the ferry workers impact the cruise industry, unless they were shared dock workers.

And even then, the worker's strike is against the AMH, and this is the unlicensed crew on the boats, not dock workers.  Even if it were the dock workers, if they are not in contention with the contract between the longshoremen's union and the cruise lines, their strike against AMH would have no effect.

In most of the ports the ferry uses a totally different pier than the cruise ships. Should be no impact unless people are taking ferry to AK and then say cruising from Whittier south. Which would seem really odd. Only the residents will be effected by this strike 😞 We will be filling the effects very soon I'm sure.
