What did you do  at the ports  ?

   TIA

In Kaui, we did a tubing excursion.  Honolulu, we've done a ship's excursion (basic city tour) and just went out on our own, taking theBus to Waikiki, went to the beach.  Couple of times we've gone to WalMart.

We've been to Hawaii many times, both on a cruise as well as just a land trip.  So, we're comfortable just walking around and doing our own thing.

A few years ago in Kauai we went on an excursion that was all about the movies that were filmed there (including the pilot for Gilligan's Island). We were on a bus that only accommodated 20 folks tops and it was equipped with large video screens. We saw movie clips, heard tales about the making of the movies and visited the sites where they were filmed including the no longer in use hotel that was the site for Elvis's Blue Hawaii.

One of of the best excursions ever - but it was not on the offer list when we ported in Kauai in May on the Noordam. If it is available I highly recommend that trip.

We usually rent a car and drive to what we want to see.  Very economical shore excursion.

This is what we do also whenever possible.  I love being on my own schedule, and able to spend as much or little time at sites as I wish.

On Oahu we took a tour of the North Shore and Buddhist Temple.  Great tour.  We also stopped at the Dole plantation.  Nice tour.  The next day took an Uber downtown and looked around the Moana hotel and took a tour..   many nice old photographs..  tons of brides..  had an overpriced Mai Tai on the beach..   tourist shopping.  really enjoyable.  The tours are free and interesting..  yet you can browse the photos on you own.  The Mai Tai was delicious

It's been more than 20 yrs since we cruised around Hawaii on the long-gone Amer. Hawaii Independence.  [Have since spent several weeks in Jan every 4 or 5 years, splitting our time between 2 different islands.]  As I recall we did the following on that cruise:  Kauai - Waimea Canyon; Maui (overnite stop I think) - Haleakela, snorkeling; Oahu - rode the Big Bus around to see Pearl Harbor, etc.; Big Island - Volcano Natl Park.

This does not technically count, since these are all planned for my upcoming FIRST trip to Hawaii, but for what it is worth:

Oahu: Day 1 - Circle Island tour - our only HAL excursion

Day 2 - Pearl Harbor and then walk around downtown. Perhaps visit the palace.

Maui: Kapalua ziplines in the morning, walk around Lahaina & Old Lahaina Luau in the evening.

Big Island

Kona - helicopter tour, then the Sea Horse farm

Hilo- custom tour with Tours by Locals. The tour includes VNP, waterfalls, an orchard garden, a black sand beach, a coffee roaster, Queen Lili’s garden and the farmers market.

Depends on when you are in Hawaii!  If you are in Maui during whale season (Dec. - March) and tendering in to Lahaina, head straight over to the Pacific Whale Foundation office on Front St. (or you can check at their booth at the tender dock) and take one of their whale watching trips.  They can't be beat!  Sadly, no more biking down Haleakala in the national park.  Otherwise, snorkeling is great.  Trilogy and Pacific Whale Foundation trips are good.  If you've rented a car, head north from Lahaina to the Kahekili Beach Park on the ocean side of the highway at Kai Ala drive--there's a nice beach park with showers and restrooms and the best snorkeling on the island.  Have fun!

First time we went to Pearl Harbor and other visits did a Private Tour around the Island.  Kauai we've done the Heli Tour through HAL which is amazing and also have done the Movies Tour mentioned above (great, fun Tour).  One of the highlights in Lahaina was the Feast at Lele.  It's different than a normal Luau where it's unlimited drinks and actual Table Service (no Buffet) and within walking distance of the Ship.  It's also a smaller Venue in a more intimate setting.   Also, Lahaina is a great Port for Whale Watching!  Hilo we've done tours and in February did a Heli Tour through HAL.  Very good but Kauai was the best!  The one Tour in Hilo we enjoyed was a Small Group Excursion through the Ship that went  to VNP, the Lava Tube, etc. and included lunch with Wine.  Kona, we did the Tour mentioned above with Tours by Locals which was very good!

One time in Honolulu, we walked early morning all the way from the ship to Waikiki Beach.  OMG were we roasting by the time we jumped in the water.

We took a taxi back.

That's a loooooog walk.
