bellagiio Posted July 29, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2019 Hi we stayed at Royal Plaza for two night s post cruise this April. Reasonably priced and in Kowloon with easy access to MTR and many sights. .Royal Plaza Hotel is an exemplary 4-star luxury property, located just 5 minutes walk from Nathan Road in Kowloon city centre. Just 35 minutes from the airport the hotel is also close to the Ladies market, the Flower market and Bird Garden and an 8-floor shopping centre. Adjacent to the MTR Mongkok East Station and the Kowloon-Canton Mongkok Railway Station, this stunning hotel makes an excellent base for those who wish to explore the surrounding attractions and areas as well as the sites of the vibrant city of Hong Kong. theborders Posted July 29, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2019 We stayed at the Royal Plaza last year before we got on the Sun Princess, great hotel and a lovely swimming pool. The Peninsula hotel is very expensive they do have a lovely fleet of green rolls Royces.
LSGDRG Posted July 29, 2019 #7 Share Posted July 29, 2019 We stayed at the Salisbury YMCA in Hong Kong for 3 nights post cruise. We made our reservation for their harbor view suite a year in advance. It was worth it. We had a lovely view of the Hong Kong skyline and the nightly light show. The hotel was close to the ferry, hoho bus, and MTR station. mum and son Posted July 30, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2019 Holiday Inn Golden Mile is a great hotel. Book a room with Executive Club privileges and enjoy use of the club including breakfast, evening snacks and drinks etc. It's been there forever but is nicely refurbished and in a great location on Nathan Road. Easy walk to the harbour, right next to the main station and easy access to Ladies Market etc. Affordable prices as well.
Rare mking8288 Posted July 30, 2019 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2019 OP - how many travelers and what is your bedding requirement, along with travel dates ? Without getting into a discussion & debate - HK's recent waves of local civil unrest, protests & escalating violence has begun to take a toll on tourism, namely - hotel booking & occupancies tending down & dropping, per latest reports within the hospitality industry ... as forecasted for probably the next 2 to 3 months, if not longer. It is still a relatively safe city (SAR) and the odds of foreign visitors being in harm's way are still low. Hence, great deals can be found - be flexible & book those fully refundable deals if you come across. Yes, TripAdvisors is a great resource, use it search engine - as it is the parent/partner of CC. Stay on the Kowloon side as most of the massive protests are targeted at key & vital government facilities, HQ and locations on the H.K. side - although, acts of civil disobedience had been randomly, somewhat, striking MTR trains & bus services, especially during peak commuting hours. This isn't intended to alarm anyone & especially our fellow CC'er - just a heads up. For current coverage & breaking news in English, go to/use SCMP's online website/app (South China Morning Post) in addition to BBC News & CNN as your resources.

It's next door to the Peninsula (the one with the fleet of Rolls-Royces) but a fraction of the cost - I rate it best value-for-money in Tsim Sha Tsui (the tip of the Kowloon peninsula overlooking HK island). Ignore the YMCA tag, it's a regular 3+ star hotel. Very close to the HK ferry, the waterside "Avenue of Stars" and busy Nathan Road shopping. Harbour-view rooms are 11th floor upwards - the Space Centre opposite masks the view on lower floors. Very popular - if you choose it don't delay booking cos it usually books out early. Tune your room's radio to the music which accompanies the 8pm light-show - it makes a huge difference. JB

Bus A21 (double decker) from the airport (and back) stops right in front of the hotel -- just 33 HKD pp.
johngalt181 Posted July 31, 2019 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2019 Shangri La is our choice in HK. A bit pricey, but Horizon Club is well worth it.

However, it has its own MRT entrance, is centrally located and just around the corner from the Clock Tower / Star Ferry Pier etc. Actually you can walk through a passage of the Peninsula (which is in front of The Kowloon) as a shortcut. Breakfast buffet is also pretty good.

Thanks They are not huge... but not too small either. Larger than the stateroom after :-) We felt comfortable with the perks and amenities - and did not spend much time in the room anyway. And as I said, the location could not have been better (espacially for the price). Edited August 2, 2019 by Miaminice
