Didn't the old one say release was first week in March for ANZ itineraries. Edited February 24, 2020 by banzaii

I recently moved my deposits on a couple of European cruises that I was booked on in April and may. I was pretty sure that travel, especially long distance travel, would become a PITA. I can picture Italy closing its ports and other European countries doing likewise. I read that Austria and Spain have restricted travel significantly to Italy. Sunny AZ Girl Posted February 24, 2020 #2954 Share Posted February 24, 2020 Royal seems to be in the middle of a lot of changes, especially with the Asia cruises. Our booked B2B Singapore to Toyko/Tokyo to Seattle in April/May 2021 is showing lot of changes on our planners. Some does not seem to make any sense. No word from Royal to those of us booked on those cruises yet. The first cruise has been "red flagged" and not showing up on searches at all for the last few months, way before Covid19. Supposedly it is sold out, but now changes are happening on our planners and not at all consistent with TA sites. We are just waiting it out since we are still over a year away. Perhaps they are re-scheduling the dry dock in Singapore that preceeds your cruise?

edspec Posted February 25, 2020 #2959 Share Posted February 25, 2020 Thanks for the info on 4/24/21 Quantum, just booked it for $1855 balcony, 2 people, refundable deposit. Just as cheap as staying home!

Cruising Power shows cheapest price on that sailing is around $2,800, and that is for an inside GTY. 🍷

It’s a long shot but possible China to Caribbean seems a bit far-fetched. At this point, the most realistic option would be to send the Asia ships to either AU/NZ year-round, US West Coast + Alaska, or Europe and sending the current Europe ships to the Caribbean. It would be far too expensive and impractical to send the Asia ships on a Global Odyssey through the Suez and Atlantic and I'm not sure if the ships would fit through the Panama Canal if going through the Pacific. This is true and why I think it is unlikely - however if this is still going on in 21 RC are likely to be looking at long term solutions. Sending them to Europe directly, as you said, is probably more likely - although where they would sail from im not sure. Maybe another ship from Southampton? Barcelona? springaussie Posted February 26, 2020 #2968 Share Posted February 26, 2020 Serenade has appeared in Sydney Ports 16, 23 and 30 November 2021. Probably a Singapore Dry Dock after Alaska like Radiance. Work 2 weekly music charters out of Sydney then head to Melbourne?

Ken at the beach Posted February 26, 2020 #2970 Share Posted February 26, 2020 I’m wondering if depending on how severe this gets that if an option might just to have the ships sit idle. There will be a ton of excess capacity amongst the cruise lines and it would most likely be less expensive to dock them for 6 months than it would be to sail half full with guests paying rock bottom fares

The Quantum cruise from Tokyo to Seattle in April of 2021 was up yesterday on the US site but has since been removed. A studio balcony was the most expensive balcony on the ship at over 6,500 USD for one guest when I looked. A standard unobstructed balcony was almost half that but still expensive compared to when Ovation's version of the same cruise first posted last year.

Ships sailed with about 85% cabins filled, many Solo passengers and no 3/4 passengers or kids/families. Even to get that full I only paid $9 for OV cabin(plus $50 port) $59total on a 5 nite, $700total for Cat B 7n. Both solo, no single supplement... Agree, huge increase in capacity, will be harder to fill compared to 2001

Mothballing a ship isn't an easy task. They are designed to be in continuous operation. Dock fees add up quickly and there are minimum crew level just to keep them floating. Crew need food, crew cabins cleaned, crew laundry done and so on. They might be able to cut the hotel support crew but the delta over the base operating costs to support a "parked' ship compared to a ship capable of supporting guests I suspect makes it more favorable to keep them bookable even if they don't operate in the black. It's about minimizing losses. They might not generate profit but the goal will be to minimize losses until they can return to maximum profitability. A parked or idle ship generates zero revenue, it's just a money pit. If they can generate some revenue that might be better on the balance sheet.
