Now I see the difference... that's a nice cabin !  You must be trying to book during a popular week.  I do know that Alaska cruises seem to cost upwards of $100 more per day than other cruises.  I'm paying $296/day for a Cat 8D balcony -- 10 Alaska day cruise.  I'm paying $220/day for a Cat 8E balcony for an 16 day Hawaii Journeys cruise.  That's $76 more per day for Alaska... that's potential drink'n money ! 😂

They should cut people from bringing on 12-pks of soda. Just think how much more revenue that would bring to each sailing. My last cruise out of NOLA i never seen so many 12-pks of soda going on a cruise ship. Unreal

If Carnival had the entertainment staff do the dancing in the dining room instead of the waiters, you could retain the tradition without slowing down the service or increasing costs.

Personally i never liked this but...a couple years ago a friend set up his wife to participate..she and our cruising group had lots of fun ...two years later we celebrated the husbands passing on another cruise...i have pictures of that competition and the friend's wife was so happy..they made a memory of a lifetime and that is what cruising is about...i will still never participate in a hairy chest contest but i dont want it cut..and don't touch shrimp cocktail..turn the library into a harry potter bar or crafting club

Never thought of that.  A 12-pak means $20 if delivered to your cabin from the fun shop, or $8.50 per day for an adult bottomless bubbles.

I like doing the math...

If a ship averaged 3000 passengers, and half brought on a 12-pak, and there are 26 ships... that would be an extra $780K per cruise.  Lets say a cruise averages 5 days, then that is nearly $57 million annually.  That's nothing to sneeze at.

If half these passengers chose one bottomless bubbles per cabin and shared (cheated), that would be $8.50/day x 750 (one passenger per cabin) x 26 ships x 365 days a year...  would be a bit over $60 million per year.  Again, nothing to sneeze at.

If they stop letting you bring sodas onboard, you can blame FSHLOT... 😂

We find the dancing very annoying. We don't want a dinner theater we want an undisturbed dinner. Fortunately we eat late at YTD and have never seen the singing and dancing in YTD

Out of curiosity, how many of you that said carrying on sodas should be eliminated,  carry on your own wine?  That would probably save them more money than the sodas.  We aren't wine drinkers and don't carry on sodas but it doesn't affect us one way or another if someone else does.

I don’t think you are in the minority. It always appears to me that most guests in the MDR are participating (waiving napkins, clapping, dancing, etc.) when the staff is singing and dancing.

Things I would cut?

 

- MDR Dancing for sure. I think the whole practice is weirdly forced and awkward.

- Paper Straws, I get they don't want to use plastic, but many times all I need is a stirstick, and you know what's good for that? Raw pasta. Works great, cheap, and biodegradable.

- Stopping in the Bahamas unless it's a private island. If I never have to go to Nassu or Freeport again? I'm happy. Those are pointless stops for me.

- Production shows. I think the quality on Carnival is so lacking compared to the other lines I've been on. Either commit to getting better performers and shows, or just get rid of it.

Agree the MDR shows seem forced and corny.  Would rather have the MDR service back to par. 

I personally don’t want pasta in my cocktail. And the gluten free peeps will definitely not want that. 

Ummm...the Bahamas are trashed from Hurricane Dorian. No worries about going there for a long long time. 

We rarely attend the shows for many reasons so cut away!  Lol  JK. They are ok. Wish they were better. 

The games show stuff is way too immature for adults though. 

 

We disagree on allowing soda etc... on embark. The cost of soda onboard s/b criminal. Pure greed. 

We don’t bring any on, but for those who do, I can see why some do it to save the $$$.  

For us, it’s the hassle factor of bringing soda or wine onboard. Schlepping extra stuff isn’t vacation friendly. Lol

We were on Splendor earlier this year and a staffer was dancing on top of one of the cylindrical tables that wait staff set trays of food on. The poor guy slipped on it and took a very hard fall. He was rushed away pretty fast. He looked okay and appeared to be more embarrassed than anything.

 

But yeah, I am mixed on the dancing. Kinda fun, but can be annoying when you need to get to a show or some other time sensitive event.

If I'm not mistaken, the MDR dancing only happens once during each mealtime. That includes once during the entire 4-hour YTD window. It's easy to miss if it upsets some of you so much. I think it's usually around 7pm.

 

They're investing millions of dollars into building "Carnival's largest cruise port in the world" in Freeport. The projected completion is late 2021. That port isn't going away.

 

I'll agree that they need to commit to getting much better Playlist performers, but they're too big of a deal to eliminate altogether. Hypothetically, if they were to eliminate them, what would you put in their place? That's a lot of time & entertainment to fill.

How will eliminating the Nassau as a port save Carnival money? The passengers pay the port fees, it's  close by and cheap to get to. Having a port nearby for the short cruises is a good idea.

I'm not really sure having a piece of soggy pasta in a drink will go over really well.
