CAS for kids

I understand that kids will follow their parents CAS status until they turn 18 but what age do kids start accumulating their nights towards their own CAS status? Do they start from babies or only when they are 13 since a CAS account requires the person to be at least 13 years of age.

They start collecting their own points from the first day they sail regardless of their age. My kids had their own C&A number since they started cruising at 8 and 10.

Theres a difference between having a C&A number and having an account.

Yes,  we got our kids C&A numbers as early as possible, however, even if they don't have a crown & anchor number they will still get points for every cruise they have actually been on.   DD was 18 months on her first cruise.  Once they turn 18 they need to call and get their C&A number unlinked from your account - at that time they will also get their parents status.   However, in order to move up in status it is based on their points not yours.

DS is 18 and just did this last week.  It was very easy.  One call to C&A.   Just have them make sure they have all your kids previous cruises listed (even the ones prior to having a number should show up).  He is Diamond due to our status but has 83 points anyway... but he's a  lot further from Diamond Plus than we are 😊

My daughter was also about this age on her first cruise, she now has 18 points in just 2 years! She will be D+ by the time she can drive!

Does anyone know if youth at the Diamond level get a free photo on board like adults do?

(I understand why SOME of the Diamond coupons are different for adults and kids -- like the BOGO beer/wine or casino spin-to-win tokens, but for the stuff that's not age-related/restricted, you'd think that the benefits/coupons would be the same.)

My son just turned 2 and he has been on one 8 night cruise- however, he shows as Emerald 🙂 Lucky kid.

Its a nice perk.  My daughter was Diamond when we took her first cruise at 9 months and is now Diamond Plus at 4 (although Diamond on her own points now).  My son who is now 8 has had some growing pains as we were just platinum when he was born so he has moved up the ranks with us.

They are living it up with those free sprites and Shirley temples though.  They can’t wait till happy hour to get their drinks.

The youth benefits are actually not tied to a specific C&A level - they are just the youth benefits.

Kids don't get the same coupons.  they get their own discounts.  No free pictures.

I'm wondering at 18 how that works... full fledged Diamond member and should get the adult Diamond coupons but obviously not the drink coupons.   Do they have a separate coupon "sheet" for those 18-20?   Then they get everything at 21.   Do they get the three free drinks (non-alcoholic) added to their cards when they are 18?

I am betting it works like anything else on the ship in the same way they check age to make sure you are old enough to be in the casino or any restricted age area.  They look at the card and see how many punches are on it to signify age.  It was two for under 18 and one for 18-20. At least that’s what it used To be.  I know my kids have punches on their cards that typically indicate age group.  Sometimes they may forget to do the punching but at that point it’s likely on the staff to check the age via ID or when they swipe it Can maybe flag someone under 21.

They can be served non-alcoholic drinks IN the Lounge.  I honestly don't know about vouchers.  If you want me to guess, I'll guess "no".

That is correct.  Kids do not get vouchers but can get drinks in the lounge.

Thank you.  Do you know if they get the coupons like the free photo (18-20 yr olds - I know kids don't get them).

Interesting.  DS will be 19 and is going on the Infinity in December - due to his Diamond Status he'll be Elite - according to the folks over on the Celebrity Board he'll get the drinks loaded on his card - non-alcoholic of course - to be used at any/most lounges during their 5-7 happy hour.   I guess we'll just wait and find out.   It is no big deal either way - just kind of interesting since kids become "full" members at 18 but the perks differ.    Due to his college schedule he's missing out on our Explorer Thanksgiving cruise  ☹️ - so I can't verify the current way it works on RCI.

I define kids as younger than 18. I am pretty sure he will have vouchers.  However,  just like how bartenders are expected not to serve people under the legal age of the cruise (18 or 21 depending  where the ship is leaving from) he will be unable to order an alcoholic beverage.

I am pretty sure they get a free photo.  At 18 they de link from your account and are now on their own.  That’s what happened when I turned 18.  Albeit my parents were not loyal to any one cruise line and I only had a RCI cruises when i was delinked.   So no real grandfathering or major benefits for me sadly.

I had all the adult benefits for gold status at the time. Although back then they just gave me a coupon book.  Now they are preloaded on the cards.  How I miss the the casino match plays.

No idea what you're talking about with "punches" on the card???  You mean an actual hole punched through the card?  Have never seen that on my kid's card over the past five years, before or after he turned 18.

I do know that the casino folks told me to have him bring proof of age to pick up his free "spin to win" tokens, because the system they have in the cashier cage doesn't show if he's over 18 or not -- they have to get a security officer over to swipe the card through a separate terminal to show age.

Well that's kinda crappy, IMO.... especially for the kids who have earned their own status level!

The card punch used to be how they delineated age a while ago, when I was  younger.  Now they just have different cards and no delineation between 18-21.

I have uploaded pics of my sons card.  He was 15 months old at the time.  They punched his card twice.

This older one was when I was 20 years old.  Only one punch.

they seemed to have phased this practice out.  I remember when I was a teenager how much it hurt to have you card punched, and not for lanyard purposes.

Yep, they've definitely not been doing that for quite some time.

I haven’t been paying much attention to it as it doesn’t affect us at this point but looks like it got phased out between 2012 and now.

Guess they go by actual IDs now.

I remember the first time my son get the card at the top of your post.  It was just after they stopped allowing parents to sign a waiver for 18+ to drink beer & wine on the ship, and he had just turned 18.  He looked at the card, looked at me and said, "Great.  There's a party on my card.  But I can't party."

How does the arcade credit work? I was going to buy my son some arcade credit for our upcoming cruise for Christmas, since it's 20% off, but the half off of 50 is better
