Hi Joe, Hope all is well.

I have found that it really depends more on the itinerary than the cruise line. The most interactive cruise I have been on would be on X  with the cruise from Ensenada (San Diego) to Hawaii. The next was Princess transatlantic cruise, England, Norway, Iceland Canada and the US. The third on HAL with the Indian Explorer.

I'll admit that I read some of these and skimmed some.  But I have to wonder why OP cruises or blogs.  Do they cruise in order to blog?  If they're not making money, then shouldn't they just blog because they enjoy doing it whether anyone reads it or not.  I'm really confused by this.  OP seems really angry.

I think You and a few others are reading more into the question than there is. The level of cynicism on these threads and other social media has increased considerably in the last few years and perhaps people are dropping off as they just cannot post anything without someone reading an ulterior motive behind it.

Mic, please talk more about this.  For the life of me, it seems like OP is complaining about people not reading his blog.  I don't read ANY blogs.  It doesn't mean that I wouldn't read someone's post on a particular topic.  And perhaps the world has become deluged with blogs and people are tired of it.  Sincerely I don't understand.  Thanks for speaking up.

The reason we joined Cruise Critic, is to be active  and interactive with fellow cruisers on our cruises. Joining Roll Calls and participating in Meet and Greets as well as shore excursions together.  Also dining together, meeting for drinks, meeting before the cruise or after the cruise and share like interests (for us it would be photography and scuba diving). We have written at least 3  photo travelogues  for each of the 3  cruise lines, to share  travel experiences and tips we have picked-up from others along the way. In the process we have made some life long friends.

Which cruise line has the most participation or interaction on Roll Calls which leads to other activities on and off the ship as a result ?

I am not sure where you got that impression, he is asking about people being interactive prior to a cruise as well as once aboard.  The blog statistics only came into it once people queried his evidence and motives for the blogs.

Thanks.  So they're looking for WAY more than I do when traveling.  I'm not looking for making friends.  Not really connecting for more than the trip itself.  Occasionally it happens but it's not my goal.  And I 'test out' as an extreme extrovert 🙂

Perhaps they are but ideally meeting people with like interests while cruising can make the cruise experience feel much more enjoyable. Having an active roll call and joining up for activities while on board and shorex's xan also be beneficial both socially and financially.

It can vary, I find the smaller ships better, as Pam said above Pacific Princess was great with only around 680 on board you almost got to know everyone, but made good friends on bigger ships. And I am a hermit who isn’t out to make friends.

We usually cruise for the destination first . The ship and cruise line are second . We do like to do small private tours and that where CC comes in . We have made friends along the way but that's not the main focus . Our last cruise was a B2B Baltic and Northern Isles cruise with 15 ports where we had booked our own tours . It seemed like no one wanted to share tours because many said "too expensive".

We did share a nice tour with 4 others in Iceland but it seems like people don't share tours the way they use to . We ate a lot of meals in our cabin where we could enjoy and photograph the scenery from the balcony .

Oh, I totally understand.  Wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same things?

It is a shame that people are staying away from M&Gs and roll calls as it does limit the opportunities for socialising somewhat and also for tour sharing. I suppose Fb has taken a lot of the traffic that used to be here.

Well hello Mic . We hope that you and Rosie are well . We are , and planning what we tried to accomplish in 2015 - a TA double crossing . Instead of being on X eastbound in the Spring we will be on the Regal Princess followed by a week in Norway on HAL .  The Fall return trip will be similar to the NICE INGAS trip that we were to do with and Rosie 2015 .

Date / Time Port
19 Aug 17:00     Departing from Copenhagen, Denmark
21 Aug 07:00 - 18:00     Flam, Norway
22 Aug 08:00 - 17:00     Alesund, Norway
24 Aug 08:00 - 17:00     Akureyri, Iceland
25 Aug 08:00 - 17:00     Isafjordur, Iceland
26 Aug 08:00 - 27 Aug 17:00     Reykjavik, Iceland
30 Aug 08:00 - 17:00     Qaqortoq, Greenland
31 Aug 07:00 - 13:00     Nanortalik, Greenland
02 Sep 11:00 - 19:00     St Johns, Newfoundland Canada
03 Sep 08:00 - 17:00     Saint Pierre Island, France
05 Sep 08:00 - 23:00     Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
07 Sep 07:00     Arriving in Boston, Massachusetts

We have an Aussie heading up the roll call so it should be a corker . But the roll call that we had with you in 2015 was much more active . That roll call had 8972 posts and 410 pages !  Our current roll call 409 posts and 17 pages .

Good to here you are getting to do that TA and it picks up Greenland as well.

As for Roll calls, I have a few cruises where there is just 5 of us on it and not much is happening. We also have one that is quite active. The FB ones have many more people but no real connections as they just get lost in the thread with advertising and tour companies posting.

We have gone to all our M&G's but there's a difference between cruise lines . On the Eclipse TA  we had the Captain and staff with a microphone , well attended with refreshments . Very organized including the Roll Call .

On the Regal we had the CD and a assistant from Brisbane . Good presentation until a couple of hecklers began . Mean spirited and very rude and prolonged arguing about the lack of free coffee at the International Cafe . We were embarrassed for the crew and CC . HAL sends no officials and I can understand why .  On the Eurodam in Alaska, the original M&G organizer could not make the cruise. We contacted HAL and set it up. Nobody except us and the refreshments showed up .  On the other hand, the Captain and crew members on the Zuiderdam  did not come to the M&G, but they were outside at every port when we left for excursions and many times when we returned.

It is a mixed bag.

Royal and X keep wiping the registrations for their parties so that no party eventuates, has happened on our last 3 cruises with them. On our next Royal cruise, the registrations have been wiped twice already, and after the 25 pax minimum had been met. They say it is a website glitch but I am thinking they would prefer to have done with them.

Just seeing those numbers is completely offputting to me.  As I wrote, I 'test' as an extreme extrovert but I'm really content with saying "hi, how was your day?" 🙂  Just too contrived for me.

Yep, it has been happening for over a year now as well and still hasn't been resolved. Our Navigator of the seas cruise last year had the party numbers reached twice but once on board there was no invite in the cabin. I went to the front desk to enquire and had the email as proof that the party would be on, they just said 'That if they are not told by head office, there is no party'. What can you do.

That's ridiculous. They should have fixed it by now.

You can contact the Home Office and they may send you to Events. You or anyone,  can say you want a room for a meeting at x time on a certain day.

We had an issue with an event and the front desk said the Home Office tells them what can be done.  We contacted the Home Office when we got home. They apologized and said it would be back on the cruise. Sometimes it is who you talk to.

Yep, like I said, I am not so sure they want to fix the problem.

It doesn't sound that way . We have been doing mostly HAL with an occasional Princess thrown in . We remember you telling us about Rosie and a whale sighting in Antarctica ( although I forgot the details ) . We had one that looked like it was trying to ram us while there .

It was the Celebrity Infinity.

An excellent choice sir ! We looked at the Eclipse , the Coral Princess and the Seaborne Quest . With a long pre cruise stay we opted for a Neptune Suite on the Zaandam for it's comfort and a 22 day cruise .
