cruisekitty22 Posted October 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2019 I am debating whether to pay for the thermal suite on our Getaway Dec 8-13, 2019 cruise. I have never been to it before on any ship. Is it worth the extra price? $179.00 per person? I like the idea of the hot tub and fantastic view I think it has. What are the Pros and cons besides price.
cruzercruiser Posted October 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2019 I can't speak to the Thermal Suite on the Getaway specifically, we have only cruised on Escape. But, we found the Thermal suite to be very much worth the money. Our policy now is to take rhe absolute lowest price cabin so we can justify the spa pass. It gives you a quiet enclave in a busy ship. If you are like us and want that option to have some peace and quiet on a big ship, I would recommend it.
Sheshefran Posted October 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 11, 2019 I like to book spa cabins where it is included.
fastpitchdad Posted October 11, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 11, 2019 We just got off the Getaway today and had a Haven Spa Suite. I definitely think it was worth it...I think I used it every day of the nine day cruise. We had previously gotten it on an Alaska cruise on the Pearl last year. It has a therapy pool, hot tub, sauna (coed), not quite so hot sauna, Steam room, Eucalyptus steam room, salt room, heated loungers and regular padded loungers as well as exclusive locker rooms and showers. My one warning is that while the Pearl was never crowded the Getaway got quite crowded on early departure port days (mostly because they sold day passes on port days) and at peak there were not available loungers of any type (which actually led to some conflict which I will describe in more detail when I get around to writing my trip report). Sweetnspicy Posted October 11, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2019 If you will use it at least an hour every day then it’s worth it! I love to sit in a sauna before starting my day and ending it. I just bought the pass for my 11 day southern Caribbean and I’m thrilled!
spanishguy1970 Posted October 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2019 is worth it. We always get the spa pass, is our only splurge aside from an excursion here and there. We usually book and inside stateroom or Balcony and not having to be on the outside pool area is worth it to us. We never get the spa balcony or mini suites, just because they charge a premium for those and they are not any different than your average balcony and/pr mini suite, so is always cheaper to just get the spa pass. Have fun.

Justaddvodka68 Posted October 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 11, 2019 (edited) Things I love about the thermal spas I've been in on NCL and my plans for future cruises . . . -It's not usually all that busy and you can always find a lounger. -The tea and water bar. -The showers and changing area, blow dryers, etc. I never showered or did my hair in my cabin. The light was great for makeup as well. -The Spa itself of course is fantastic. Loved the pool with the strong jets to work the knots out, the heated lounger, the steam room and sauna. -It's open quite early and my husband is a bad snorer. We stay up very late in the casino and sleep in most days. When I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for his snoring, I had somewhere quiet to retreat to, and often would go right back to sleep in there. It was lovely! Specific to the Gem, I loved the floor to ceiling windows and the spectacular view while lounging and the music they played, piano music with crashing waves and nature sounds. It really relaxed me and made for a very peaceful vibe in the room. I also enjoyed that they enforced the quite space rules. Specific to the Epic, I loved the huge deck outside the Spa suite, with the two large beds you could read/nap on and the extra loungers. However, that did take away from the view from inside the spa and the weather wasn't always nice enough to be outside. The Epic spa was also loud and even the sounds of the water echoed. They didn't have the music like the Gem so there was nothing to muffle the sound. Also if people were loud talking or laughing it was amplified and quite annoying. Pair that with the fact that on that specific trip there were several groups of people who would come into the spa with drinks, (which is allowed in plastic) and actually party in the spa like it was a giant hot tub. Talking, laughing, just having a grand old time. You rarely say an attendant, so to complain you had to get up and go out to the desk. They'd come in and ask the people to please respect the quiet space policy, which was posted all over. But a few minutes after she's leave, they'd be right back to the loud obnoxious behavior. It was really putting a damper on my enjoyment of the spa, so on the last few days I just went early mornings and avoided it except to shower and get ready for dinner. Justaddvodka68 Posted October 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2019 Adding, my plans for future cruises, based on my experience on the Epic, is to not pre-purchase and check the spa out myself first. I'll see if they have the music. I know I could just bring my phone and earbuds and listen to my own, but it's not the same and I can't use that in the water. If they don't have the music, I'll wait until the first day and visit a couple times to see what the vibe is. If it seems people are using it as a party hot tub, I'll probably skip it and find myself another quiet corner to read/nap in.

I would be super annoyed with this. You pay that extra for exclusivity. I'd have asked for a partial refund. Reason: Because I wasn't offered to buy just the sea days, why should people be offered single days on port days?
josephmz Posted October 11, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 11, 2019 (edited) Like the ad says: "Don't Leave Home Without It" We love the spas. Usually hit it at least twice a day. For the most part they are not overcrowded. I'm sorry but I am a talker. Like to chat with fellow hot tub patrons. Last cruise on Escape I guess we were a little loud. An officer came by to remind us it was a quiet area. Do think it's a little ridiculous to allow folks to bring drinks in. There's enough noise from the water jets that if you're close to another person and just talking, it's fine. It's a group loud talking and laughing that was annoying. chiquiDYKE Posted October 22, 2019 #13 Share Posted October 22, 2019 It’s definitely worth it. 👍🏻 The bigger ships have better Spas but that doesn’t stop us from getting it. We use it every day and sometimes twice a day. We’ll be getting it for our next cruise. ☺️
Rare PhillyTravelBug Posted October 22, 2019 #14 Share Posted October 22, 2019 (edited) Worth every penny! I’ve done them on the getaway and the Bliss. Edited October 22, 2019 by Joeghartman
miataman19 Posted October 22, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 22, 2019 Absolutely worth it. Going on Escape in January and been to all the ports before (only time I could get off). Those 4 port days I'll have the spa mostly to myself. Gonna be loving it. 😎
valleyvillage Posted October 23, 2019 #16 Share Posted October 23, 2019 Love the spa, even the smaller spa on the Star, without all the extras. Bliss spa was amazing! Oddly, when we were on the Joy which does not have a Thermal Spa, I didn't miss it and didn't miss not spending the extra. BUT, if it's there, I gotta have it! dreamr Posted October 24, 2019 #17 Share Posted October 24, 2019 I lucked into a spa balcony room on my last cruise. It was the first time I had ever been to the spa. It was amazing! I went every day. Sometimes, more than once. I loved the pool, the little square bubble area (have no clue what it's called lol), the salt room, the sauna, and the loungers. I loved it so much that I'm planning to buy a spa pass for my upcoming cruise. So, at least to me, it is definitely worth it. 😄 Oh, my last cruise was on the Getaway, btw. Upcoming cruise is on the Escape. Can't wait to try out the snow room!

What are the Pros and cons besides price. No one can tell you if it is worth it. You have to decide how much time you will spend in it. Since Getaway has four ports, and most are beach days you might not spend much time there. The area is very nice but there is really no view from in the pools or hot tubs, all you see are backs of chairs. The stone loungers do have a forward view, but most of the regular loungers have a view off the starboard side of the ship. I usually pay for it but I think that I end up spending more than it is worth. It is just something that you have to decide on your own.

prbffd28 Posted October 25, 2019 #20 Share Posted October 25, 2019 Since this is Thermal Suite related I figured I would ask here if anyone can lead me to where I can book this for my February Encore sailing? I have looked through all the Spa items listed and it doesn't show anything specific for the Thermal Suite. Am I missing it somewhere? Thanks in advance!! I do all of my bookings for shows, spa ect on my phone app. We only sail ship with thermal suites. We have never encountered loud drinkers but I guess it can happen. Our last cruise was on the Getaway(Baltic Aug 2019) and the thermal suite was beautiful and never really crowded. Hope this helps and have a wonderful time!
