Medallion Class Question

I remember that I was informed that I couldn't complete the Medallion Class App until after the final payment date.  I have made the final payment 4 weeks early and now I don't remember if I needed to wait until after I made the final payment or was it after the final payment date ?

It also depends on what ship you are going on. If the ship is not yet OM ready, then you will need to wait a little longer and maybe get your OM at the pier? They arrive 2 weeks before your cruise if you do pre-order.

It is a Regal cruise which is an OM cruise.  I tried once before to complete the check in on Ocean Ready and I was informed it was too far out when I tried.  The advice I had was to wait until after final payment to complete check in.  I don't remember if the process could be completed after the actual payment was made or the date it was due.  In the meantime, Princess came out with the Medallion Class App so I think I would need to complete that rather than the Ocean Ready App.  :classic_unsure:

It sounds like you are having the same problem a lot of others are currently experiencing. You should call support.

You can fill in the Medallion Class app info at anytime but until final payment is made, you won’t be able to get the electronic boarding pass. The app will show that you need to look at your Cruise Personalizer in My Princess to complete all the info needed there, even if you have already completed it. Since you have paid in full, I imagine you should be able to complete everything in the app and be ‘ready’ as long as your My Princess info is also finished.

I didn’t make my final payment until a couple of days before it was due and then the app allowed me to get the boarding pass. Others have reported they paid in full way early and their app showed ‘ready’ at that time.

As for ordering medallion, that can be done before final payment is made. I ordered our medallions a month before I made final payment and order was accepted & confirmed at the time of the order.

I hope this helps so you don’t have to phone in!!

While I don't want to discourage anyone from downloading the App and going through the process - I did recently for a Royal Princess cruise, I'm not sure that the time taken is worth the bother. I set up Ocean Ready for the two of us, which was quite simple but at the pier the queue for people that were set up for the Medallion was longer than those who had done nothing.

Once on board I quickly set up my access to the intranet which contained Patter details, my room account among other details, plus an icon to access the net for which I had purchased an unlimited package. There was a card with very simple set up instructions in the cabin. Personally I did not want to be able to track my wife, play casino games, or use it to order drinks as I'm happy to go to the bar or flag down a waiter (frequently).

Some people seem concerned about all this fairly recent technology but if you do nothing beforehand, it has no effect whatsoever. My experience was it was hardly worth the time. The Medallion itself with the opening of doors, being able to clip it in to a watch band etc, I really liked and much better than a card in my opinion.

Another OM question:  On all of my previous cruises out of Port Everglades, The Sheriff's Deputy at the checkpoint would ask to see my boarding pass before I could enter the port.  How does one enter the port without a hard copy boarding pass?

Probably the same way security at the pier building would do if a person showed up there without a boarding pass, by looking at a copy of the ship's manifest.  At least at Seattle, each security station has a current copy and looks at it if the person they're checking doesn't have a copy of his/her boarding pass for some reason.

I plan on printing a hard copy boarding pass.

I agree with you do it. Just in case.

I have been planning to print hard copies anyway (belt & suspenders) but I was wondering what others' Port Everglades experiences were since the changeover to OM.

In Brooklyn last week we just flashed our medallions on the way in. No need for paper.

Jim

The only security I encountered in Brooklyn were private security guards located at the front door of the terminal.  This is very different from my question.  In Port Everglades, Broward County Sheriff Deputies have a Homeland Security checkpoint before you can enter the port where all of the terminals are located.  After you are allowed into the port area, there is private security checking your credentials at the terminal door as well.  Sometimes there are seven cruise ships in Port Everglades at the same time as well as any number of tankers.  I just don't think the deputy at the initial checkpoint would have passenger manifests for every ship in Port Everglades.  I can see where the security guard at the terminal door might have a manifest for the ship at that particular terminal, but not manifests for every ship.  If the deputy had to check ships manifests for every car coming into Port Everglades it would be a traffic nightmare.  That's why I was asking what the deputy needs to see when specifically entering Port Everglades in the age of electronic medallions.

We have never had to show anything more than a passport to enter Port Everglades.

Were you driving or in a shuttle?  When we have gone in by car, they scrutinized us more than the times we went in by hotel shuttle.

we drive in .. a few years ago, they moved one of the checkpoint port security stops , so now, we could enter off 17th street and Eisenhower and there was NO checkpoint to get to the parking garage and terminal 2

now, when we left, we went out a different way ( maybe hwy 84 ? ) and DID have to go thru Port security to leave ..

cray, cray, I know ... pretty sure we just showed passports ,,, it was an OM cruise on the CB in May, but we also had printed boarding passes ... don't remember if we had to show them at any point as we had the OM's in hand before the cruise started

My last cruise out of PE left from Terminal 19.  I came in through Eisenhower but still had to go through the checkpoint.  I did take a ferry out to Grand Bahama in February and now that I think of it I didn't go through a security checkpoint on Eisenhower.  The ferry left from Terminal 1.

That's very interesting because PE's web site says only ticketed passengers are allowed into the port without getting a visitor's badge.  Maybe they've relaxed their requirements as mere possession of a passport doesn't confirm a person is a ticked PAX.  Thanks for the responses from everybody, I think I'll bring along a hard copy just in case but my OM cruise is Regal out of PE so I assume it will leave from Terminal 2 - meaning I won't need to pass a checkpoint.  It is still an interesting academic question though.

There are lots of people entering port everglades.   For instance, what about picking up your friends returning from a cruise?

I have entered port everglades many, many times.    Show government issued I.D.   No problem.

Once, I got a visitor badge that I was supposed to wear.

About 2-dozen times I got a hang tag for the car that showed I was there for only the day.

Now, just show I.D.

It probably depends on MARSEC level.

A couple years ago they moved terminal one and two outside the security checkpoint on eisenhowser blvd.

(or, they moved the security checkpoint further south)

This fun thread has a poster arguing and arguing that this isn't true, even disagreeing with CKJSKIDS and finally realizing that there is

more than one entrance to port everglades:
