The Fun Researcher Posted October 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) We're new to Carnival but are looking at a cruise on the Sunrise next year. We typically sail in inside cabins. It looks like this ship got a HUGE refurb this year and I'm wondering if ALL cabins were redone or if there are certain ones that I need to book in order to guarantee we have a refurbished cabin? (specifically inside cabins, but I'm also asking for friends who typically sail in a balcony) Thanks in advance, Dan Edited October 26, 2019 by The Fun Researcher

They started doing them even as she sailed as the Triumph. 😎

Rare shof515 Posted October 26, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2019 I was on the Sunrise back in june in an inside cabin. Looking at the old triumph youtube and comparing it to my cabin, all cabins have new carpet, usb port and new decor.

Dan Lipstick on a pig. Sorry. Yes the cabins are all redone, but there is still rust on the balconies and wear in other areas leftover from when it was the Triumph. It is obvious that the Sunshine is NOT a new ship, just a renamed one.

I was just on it and she looked totally fine, I have 35 cruises under my belt with multiple cruiselines including a near-luxury line, and we thought Sunrise was fine. The ship looked great, service was good, and the food was fine as well.

gizfish Posted October 27, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 27, 2019 Sorry I did mean Sunrise not Sunshine. My comment about it not being new was in reference to how many newer cruisers are duped into thinking this is a new ship not an old refurbished one. And, my comment was clearly in reference to the post I quoted asking for impressions on the refurb. That is exactly what I did. No one asked about service, food, activities, etc,. I do not have an agenda, and as a matter of fact have sailed eight times on NCL and seven on Carnival. I feel that while they may have spruced up the décor and added more cabins and some more fun areas on the ship, they did nothing to address issues that obviously were present when it was Triumph and would only seem worse with more people on it now. For instance, they did not address the smokiness issue around the casino and going up and down the stairs like a wind tunnel. They did not address the issue of using the same elevators to deal with luggage as they do to get all the passengers to their cabins on embarkation day (we waited over 20 minutes, and someone near us in line passed out while waiting due to that problem). They did not address the poorly laid out buffet area, and they did not address flow issues near the alternative eating areas. That being said, we had a good time on the ship. The food was good (better than NCL's but not as good as Carnival used to be). The room was nice, bigger than NCL and comfortable with the seating space, balcony size and furniture (they still give a reclining balcony chair. NCL does not). The service was very good, and although the "production" shows were kind of meh, the head liner shows and the quest game were really, really good.

The point was, and is, is that the ship had a major refurbishment, well beyond just cabin interiors. While some things like paint around balconies is easy to see, a comment like lipstick on a pig is.... well, from my view not fair. How do you enlarge a Tight lido area? The tried by adding stations. This is off topic of the post by the op as was your comments. I will move on.
The Fun Researcher Posted October 27, 2019 Author #13 Share Posted October 27, 2019 I don’t mind hearing anything and everything that you might want to say about the Sunrise.(aka Triumph). The. Things you like, the things you don’t like. Public venues. Traffic flow. Pool deck. Food. Smoke. It sure beats me having to try and search all over the forums to find information. Thanks again all. Anyone care to share their impressions of the newly refurbished sunrise/triumph? Dan I was on the Sunrise last month and have included some of my impressions on Jamman54's excellent B2B review, which also has great pictures. I never sailed triumph so I can't really compare/contrast, but it was not my favorite ship (I prefer the Pride). Somethings I didn't like: choke points on Lido deck (buffet, deli, Blue Iguana, etc) little to no drawer space in cabin - was able to work around but different than expected cabin walls only held magnets in certain areas - again, able to work around but unexpected no promenade "can't get there from here" feeling for decks 3 & 4 The cabin had adequate lighting and outlets. Everything seemed to work. We were able to keep a comfortable temperature. There was plenty of space for the two of us, despite a different configuration. We had an ocean view. Service was overall very good. Food was adequate - sometimes great, sometimes disappointing - never went hungry. There seemed to be some sound/mic issues with the playlist shows. Mikey the cruise director was great (and heard great things about Flying Scotsman too). There were a lot of options for things to do and places to eat. Overall we enjoyed our cruise, but we felt we were making the best of what we booked rather than liking it so much we would book again on that ship. Others enjoyed it enough to rebook the same ship, but we feel there are other better ships for us.

I've pretty much made up my mind to look elsewhere now. (not just from your review) I keep reading about crowding, the chopped up feel of the ship, smoke migrating from casino, etc. Dan Edited October 30, 2019 by The Fun Researcher

I did sail the Triumph, in 2007, and after seeing all the pics (Jamman54 B2B review), it looks beautiful! Most ALL Carnival ships have issues with smoke in the casinos, along with every cruise line I’ve sailed, and will continue to be an issue until they finally ban smoking in the casinos. I love trying all the different classes of Carnival ships, as they all have their good points to make them unique. I wouldn’t rule this ship out just yet. Read Jamman54 review, plus view YouTube videos of ships. For great tour videos of ships, I always try to find one by Cruise Radio.
