Rare pierces Posted October 28, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2019 Pictures taken between Monday, October 28 and Sunday, November 3. Rules: See above That's it. This isn't a contest. All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising). Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize. The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays. Post one. Post many. Up to you. Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

zackiedawg Posted November 3, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2019 Yesterday's birds out at the local wetlands...some good rare sightings: A great egret hanging out in the watery landscape: The lovely roseate spoonbill - this one a male in the fullest colors: The hard-to-find American bittern: The belted kingfisher, with his big head, all the better to catch fish with: And the rarest sighting of all - a nightjar species - I think this one may be a chuck-will's-widow, though it also could be a whip-poor-will or common nighthawk. None are very common to find during the day, and spend most of the day napping:
Rare pierces Posted November 4, 2019 Author #9 Share Posted November 4, 2019 Sunday morning found our local family out picking apples at the sort-of-local U-Pick apple orchard. In all the years we've made the Autumn pilgrimage to the San Bernardino community of Oak Glen, we have never actually picked our own apples. We usually remember that it’s apple season too late or we get there too late in the day to do anything other than a little shopping after the traditional apple pie purchase. This year we got there early, had breakfast and drove up to the orchard ahead of the crowds. A $2 (each) hay ride behind a ‘53 John Deer tractor got us to the Fuji apple area and the cousins had a ball finding the perfect apples. Yay, apples!
